Transmission 2 : Le monde au bout des doigts

Unit Rationale:
In this unit you will learn the vocabulary and grammar concepts needed to be able to
successfully discuss and write about technology. The unit will be heavily oral and grammar
based so that you become more confident in these aspects. Some reoccurring in this unit are
group circle, review games, and a daily worksheet that will be assigned as homework if not
completed in class.

Learning outcomes:
At the end of this unit I will be able to:
Conjugate verbs in the present tense, past tense, and future tense
Identify verb tenses and know which verb tense to use in different situations
Write about the influence that technology has in our lives
Comment and discuss with my classmates about a variety of topics related to
technology
Read and respond to texts

Assessment:
1. Projects
(a) Create your own blog: You will be creating your own blog with a minimum of five entries
where you can talk about and give your opinion on any topic of your choice. Each blog post
will have a minimum of 125 words. Blog entries will be written in class only. You will have a
chance to correct your errors before adding the blog entry onto your website to better your
mark.
(b) Create a commercial: In groups, you will be creating a commercial where you will be
convincing your audience to buy a technology related object. You will be graded on proper
grammar and vocabulary use as well as the use of advertisement techniques taught in class

2. Quiz/Tests
(a) Expressions du jour: There will be a small quiz (10 marks) three times this unit (every
five classes) to ensure that you understand the use of these words. The words learned in
the expression du jour are useful words that must be memorized in order to write a
cohesive paragraph (transition words, introductory words, etc.).
(b) Grammar quizzes: There will be a small quiz (10/15 marks) for each of the grammar
points learned in this unit so that you can ensure you understand the usage and conjugation
of each tense before larger weighted assignments are due.
(c) Unit test: The unit test will asses your understanding of the grammar concepts and
language points learned in this semester. The test will assess all the communication
strands: listening, speaking, writing, and reading.

3. Formative assessment:
Formative assessment is a type of check-in, which is not worth marks, to ensure that both
you and I can monitor whether or not you are on the right track. Most days we will do a
short exit/entrance slip to review the concepts that have been learned previously so that
both you and I are aware of the areas you are strong in as well as the areas in which you
need more attention.
