COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of concepts in curriculum and identfying models and
principles of curriculum design.

2. Examine factors to consider in designing a curriculum and discuss issues in
curriculum implementation.

3. Discuss the role of the teacher in curriculum.

4. Identify and discuss curriculum evaluation and curriculum change.


This project assesses learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.



PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

To enable students to:

1. Read critically and select appropriate information from various sources on issues in
curriculum;

2. Demonstrate basic understanding of the factors to consider in designing a curriculum;

3. Discuss key issues related to the curriculum in the context of the Malaysian
experience.

4. Examine the teachers roles in relation to curriculum evaluation and change in the
context of the Malaysian experience.

PROJECT (100%)

There are two tasks to the project: Task I and Task II.

Task 1: Round Table Discussion (Group: 10% & Individual: 40%)

1. In groups of 4:
a. Read and select 5-6 articles related to the assigned statement. The articles should
represent perspectives of different stakeholders.
b. Review the articles, identifying emerging issues.
c. Choose a role you would like to take on.
2. Individually conceptualize the issues into a ONE-PAGE speakers note for the round
table discussion.
3. Submit the articles to the lecturer a week prior to the round table discussion.
4. You will present your review in the round table discussion to address the statement
above. You will be individually assessed for your presentation in the round table
discussion.
You should relate your review to:

Issues raised in the articles
The concerns of selected stakeholder in the Malaysian context
The impact on the implementation of the reforms

Task 2: Academic Essay (Individual: 50%)



In order to meet our high aspirations amidst an increasingly competitively global
environment, we cannot stand still. Our country requires a transformation of its entire
education system.

With close reference to the quote above, discuss the role of teachers as agents of change in
the successful transformation of the Malaysian school curriculum in meeting the aspirations.

Your essay must not exceed 1500 words.

An excellent discussion should:

Demonstrate a sound understanding of the role of teachers as agent of curriculum
change;
Demonstrate a sound understanding of new directions in Malaysian curriculum;
Support arguments, with close reference to the Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013
2025), other related Malaysian curriculum documents and key references.

are met.

3. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated. All borrowed ideas must be
acknowledged and properly cited.
4. Cite the source of the text and any references you used using the APA format.
Referencing is part of the assessment.
5. Your work should be type written with 1.5 spacing and font Arial, size 11.
6. The cover page should adhere to the recommended coursework template.
7. The cover page should have the following information:

c. Index Number
d. Identity Card Number
e. Class/Group
f. Course & Code
g. Lecturers name
8. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late
submission will be dealt with severely.
9. The weightage of the project is 50%.
