Contact Information The best way to contact me is by email. I will do my best to respond to emails within 24 hours, Monday-Friday. My email is emma.coates@canyonsdistrict.org. The best times to contact me by phone are 20 minutes before and after school and during my preparation period (2 nd Period on A Days, 3 rd period on B Days). Debate Everyday, students need to bring a notebook specific to my class, a folder specific to my class, and pencil or pen. Debate students can expect one current event homework assignment per week, which should not take them more than 10 minutes to complete. Once or twice a trimester students will have a small speech writing/memorizing homework assignment. Tournament preparation will be completed during class time. Please plan on your Debate 1 student competing at one tournament, it is a requirement of the class. Tournament grades will go on third trimesters report card. Advanced Debate students are required to compete at two tournaments and the grades will be put on second and third trimesters report card. All debate students who do not compete at the required tournament(s) will lose the corresponding points, there is no make up option for tournaments. Tournaments are after school on the following dates; October 30 th , January 29 th , March 11 th , March 12 th . More specific information will be sent home before each tournament.
Creative Writing Everyday, students need to bring a notebook or lined paper, a folder specific to my class, and pencil or pen. Creative writing students will need a creative writing journal. This can be a special journal or just a regular notebook, depending on students preference. Notebooks should have around 150 pages and can be lined or unlined. For homework, creative writing students will write one page in their creative writing journal every week. This should not take them more than 25 minutes to complete. Journals will be graded on Fridays.
Literacy Lab Everyday, students should bring a notebook or lined paper and a pencil or pen. All work will be completed during class time, students should not expect homework for this class since reading logs are completed in students English Language Arts classes.
