The project for this chapter will be an Ofrenda modeled after the Mexican custom of

celebrating the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), in which people construct an altar
of memories about a deceased loed one! "t is a celebration blending the #atholic holy
days of $ll %aints& Day ('o! () and $ll %ouls& Day ('o! )) with the indigenous
religious practices common before the adent of the %panish #on*uistadores!
+ou will
1. #hoose a person to commemorate! "t may be a deceased relatie, an historic
figure, a character from fiction, or a pop culture icon! (of %panish bac,ground
unless it is a relatie)!
2. #onstruct a memory altar! "t must include a picture of the person, a gift that
your person would appreciate, and - items representing the elements of earth,
water, wind, and fire! The altar should be no larger than a shoe box! The altar
should be colorful, original, and neatly done for the full 15 points!
3. .rite about the person and tell us what the person was li,e and the person did
in their lifetime! Try to lin, these eents with the items you choose for your
