When 2010 Honoree, Lexi

Freeman attended her first
rheumatology appointment, she was still awaiting the arrival of her second
birthday. At that appointment, the physician asked Lexi how she was. Lexi
simply looked at him and answered, “Good.” He then asked her if she was in
pain. Lexi smiled sweetly, nodded her head and said, “Yes.” Sadly, Lexi had
come to associate living with pain as a normal everyday occurrence.

Now, three years later, Lexi’s symptoms are being managed with weekly
injections. Lexi definitely does not enjoy the injections, but she has come to
realize they do make her feel better. She is able to run, play, and she even
competed in a sack race, all things Lexi was not able to do a year ago!

Lexi is an inspiration and joy to all who know her. Her beautiful blue eyes
and sweet smile light up a room and melt your heart.

Lexi and her parents attended the National Juvenile Convention last summer
and learned many valuable lessons about managing her Arthritis symptoms
and pain. Lexi, at age 5, already has plans for her future, and she is not letting her arthritis slow her down! She

plans to participate in cheerleading, soccer, swimming and dancing just like other children her age.
