    WhenIgottogotheoperatingroom,IgottoseetheentiresurgeryandhelptakethepatienttotheICU,but
    thenIhadtogetbacktoCVU.ButtodayIgottowatchwhathappenswiththepatientwhentheygetbacktothe
    unit,andhelpthemsettlein.
    SPECIFICAREASTOIMPROVE:Whatdoyoufeelwereyourweaknessesorareasofdeficientknowledge?
    IlearnedthatIneedtocontinuetopracticegivingreport.Igottogivereportontwodifferentnursestoday,but
    withbothofthemtherewerequestionsthatIdidntknowtheanswersto.Ineedtojustpreparebetterforreport
    andunderstandtheoverallpictureofmypatientscondition.
    LESSONSLEARNED:
    IlearnedthatwhenopenheartpatientsgetbacktotheICU,theyshouldwakeupwithin4hoursandthengetup
    tothechairwithin2hoursafterthat.
    Ialsolearnedthatthedoctorswritestandingordersfordifferentthings.Oneofmypatientswasoncontinuous
    monitoringofElectrolyteandtherewerestandingordersinthechartforanyelectrolytereplacementthatthe
    patientmayneed.Thatwaythenursedoesnthavetocallthedoctorforanyscenario.
    However,theslidingscalewasnottobeusedinpatientswithDKA.
    CONCEPTS:FocusononeormoreoftheNursingConceptsincludedinthiscourse.
    Perfusion:WehadapatientcomeintotheERafter4hoursofchestpain.HeisasmokerandhadCAD.We
    wereadministeringhisbloodpressuremedicationsandhadordersforNitropressandwehadtowatchtobe
    surethathischestpaindidnotreturn.
    EXPERIENCEWITHNURSEPRECEPTOR:Includepreceptorsnameandspecificfeedback
    TodayIworkedwithCora.ShehasbeenanICUnursefor2years.Shewasnice,butshedidntkeep
    herselfbusy.Westartedthedaywithtwopatientsandneitherofthemhadalotofmedications.Soshespenta
    lotoftimejustsittingandtextingonherphone.Ispentalotoftimelookinguplabsandmedicationsandlooking
    intothepatient'shistoryandphysical.Shewasknowledgeable,butkindoflazy.
