1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus
did the teacher include in the lesson today?
Today the students were focusing on adjectives. They created a spooky story, since Halloween is
coming up. They were told to use a lot of adjective to describe the main character. After they
created their short story, they made spooky spectacles out of construction paper and were allowed
to decorate them to match their stories. They also spoke about the parts of a story. The teacher was
sure to remind the students to include a beginning middle and end to their short story.

2. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn?
The students were very excited about the lesson. They were ready to express themselves through their
writing and be creative! The kids learned about how adjectives really improve their writing. They did
some peer editing throughout the time, and the students did a good job with constructive criticism. The
teacher went over how to be polite and considerate when you are peer editing.

3. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something
from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness,
phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading
I was unaware that the kids struggle that much with vocabulary. They had a lot of trouble finding
adjectives to describe their scary characters. I think that just by modeling the use of adjectives in
speech, the students would catch on and have a little bit more expressive and entertaining writing.

4. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment.
How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation.
One of the system 44 students was supposed to keep working on his computer. But he saw that the
other students (read 180 kids) were doing this fun writing activity and he really wanted to be
involved. He created a story and main character. The teacher facilitated this learning by being a

scribe for him and allowing and encouraging him to join in the class and be involved even though it
wasnt planned.
