Instructional Goal Instructional Goal with Performance Context
Goal: Thirty students attending beauty college will
demonstrate the ability to shampoo hair using a
streaming video, Microsoft PowerPoint
presentation, and a Student Guide.
Learners using a PowerPoint Presentation, student
guide, and streaming video (CN), will demonstrate
(B) the ability to shampoo hair. The students will
use this knowledge to pass a state certification
exam (CR).

Lesson 1
Terminal Goal 1 Given student guide, shampoo tools and supplies
(CN), learners will demonstrate (B) ability to
prepare shampoo workstation without assistance
(CR).
Performance Objective 1.1
Students will disinfect workstation.
Using disinfectant (CN), learners will disinfect
their workstation. All learners will successfully
disinfect their workstation (CR).
Performance Objective 1.2
Students will assemble products and supplies.
Using a selection of shampoos and supplies (CN),
learners will assemble (B) the appropriate shampoo
solutions and accessories. Students will
successfully assemble products and supplies (CR).
Performance Objective 1.3
Students will adjust chair position.
Using their feet and hands (CN), learners will
adjust (B) chair position. Students will
successfully adjust chair position (CR).

Lesson 2
Terminal Goal 2 Given access to hand sanitizer, brush, cape, and
towel (CN), learner will demonstrate (B) ability to
perform prewash activities without assistance
(CR).
Performance Objective 2.1
Students will disinfect hands.
Using disinfectant (CN), learner will clean (B)
hand. Students will successfully disinfect hands
(CR).
Performance Objective 2.2
Students will ask client to remove jewelry.
Using hands gestures and verbal cues (CN),
learners will asks (B) client to remove jewelry.
Students will successfully ask client to remove

Performance Objective 2.3
Learner will position towel and cape over client.
Using a towel and cape (CN), learner will drape

Learner will examine client scalp.

Terminal Objective 3 Using disinfectant, shampoo, and water (CN),
learner will demonstrate (B) the ability to shampoo
clients hair without assistance (CR).
Performance Objective 3.1
Learner will disinfect the sink.
Using disinfectant (CN), learner will disinfect (B)
the sink. Students will successfully disinfect the
sink (CR).
Performance Objective 3.2
Learner will test water temperature.
Using the inside wrist (CN), learner will test (B)
water temperature. Students will successfully test
water temperature (CR).

Learner will rinse hair and apply shampoo.
Using water hose and shampoo bottle (CN), leaner
will rinse (B) hair with water and apply shampoo
solution. Students will successfully rinse hair and
apply shampoo (CR).
Performance Objective 3.4
Learner will perform scalp manipulations
Using message techniques (CN), learners will
perform (B) scalp manipulations. Students will
successfully perform scalp manipulations (CR).
Performance Objective 3.5
Learner will rinse client hair.
