Extended Day Tutoring Opportunity

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Zebulon B. Vance High School will begin its Extended Day Tutorial Program on Tuesday December 9, 2014 and run
through May 21, 2015. This letter contains information about the program and the appication for your child to attend.
Please be sure to complete all parts of the application and return it by the due date. It is imperative that we have the
transportation information back in a timely manner to be sure your child has transportation, if needed, when he or she
begins the program. Please note that transportation will not begin until January 6, 2014. If your child attends the
December sessions, they will need their own transportation home.
About the program:
In an effort to improve academic achievement, Zebulon B. Vance High School is pleased to offer students an opportunity
for Enrichment and remediation. In addition to gaining knowledge, students will be given academic incentives if they
successfully complete all tasks assigned.
Description of Opportunities:
The Extended Day Tutorial Literacy program is designed for 9th and 10th grade students to explore and to identify their
own personal academic and growth goals. There is also the opportunity for enrichment through creative writing and
literature exploration for those students who would like to extend beyond their English class work.
Students who are in the following courses are eligible for the program: English II, Biology I, Math I and Math II
OR students enrolled in English I in order to prepare for English II
The following should also be considered when applying for the program: Students who may get a 3 on the
EOC but need extra support to score a 4 or 5, students who are making up work or assessments and students
who will benefit from working with a certified teacher.
Student Expectations: (During Enrichment/Remediation and During their Class)
1. Students shall complete all homework and class work assignments.
2. Students shall attend regular classes daily and be on time.
3. If any student is tardy, they will not be allowed to attend that session. Be in cafeteria by 2:25.
4. Tutorials are held from 2:30-5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If a student arrives late or leaves early (excused
or not), the tutorial session will not count towards compliance.
5. Students must come prepared and ready to learn.

No disciplinary issues will be tolerated!!! We will follow the Vance and CMS discipline
policies!!!
