Unit 3 Week 4
Test Date: Friday, December 5, 2014
Comprehension Strategy: Summarize
-Informational texts include ideas and details that may
be unfamiliar. Finding and understanding key details is
important as they read.
-Identify the most important events. Ask yourself: who,
what, where, when and why.
- Ask how important facts are related. Notice which
events cause other events to occur. Think about which
ideas help express the author's purpose for writing.
- To summarize, you have to briefly restate the most
important ideas in your own words and in a logical
order.
-For extra practice, refer to Practice Workbook pages
133-144. Also refer to The RWW book page 212.

describing cause-and-effect relationships. This is a text structure

to organize ideas and who why or how something happened.
-To identify cause and effects, look at events that make
something happen (cause).
-Pay attention to what happens as a result of it (effect).
- Signal words include: because, so, due to, and as a result.
