Job Title:

Artist Residency Facilities Maintenance Lead


Part-time, up to 30-hrs/week


Montalvo Arts Center is seeking a skilled and energetic new team member for our Lucas Artist Residency
Program. Reporting to the Residency Director, this position is responsible for the overall maintenance of
the residency complex and property, including grounds, equipment and building maintenance, as well as
event and artist program support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Repair and maintain residency grounds and gardens, buildings and studios, offices and other
areas.
Repair, maintain, test, set up and operate office and studio equipment including telephones,
computers, printers, projectors, tools, lights, heating, kitchen appliances, etc.
Plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems.
Carpentry repairs. Painting, both interior and exterior.
Ensure that landscape and irrigations systems are maintained.
Ensure that storage areas and entrances are clean, orderly and secure.
Ensure that adequate lighting is maintained throughout the property.
Assist Residency and Operations Directors with coordination of bidding processes, including
scheduling and monitoring work performed by contractors.
Have reliable knowledge of all utility routing and cut-offs, including shop, storage and security.
Assist Manager with move-ins, move-outs and regular inspections. Promptly prepare vacant
units for re-occupancy.
Janitorial Duties might include leaf blowing, raking, power washing, transports trash and waste
to disposal area, perform other related duties as required. May assist in custodial work including
cleaning commons areas, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, windows, etc.
Provide Artists and Programs Event support: assist with gallery and art on the grounds
installation/de-installation and construction. Sets up and tears down events. Fulfill artist
requests and perform other related duties as required.
Maintains a professional demeanor and generates positive working relationships with artists,
guests, vendors, staff and volunteers.
Acts as point person for any emergency situation. Makes immediate decisions and
communicates with users of the facility and emergency personnel in an emergency situation.
Participate in standby emergency schedule for evening, weekend and holiday coverage.
Adheres to day-to-day operational policies and procedures. Completes daily work logs.
Adheres to safety regulations. Acts as a member of the safety team insuring compliance with
our IIPP program

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Two-three years of experience in general maintenance and repair.
An interest in working and collaborating with artists

Your application will be enhanced with the following skills: Technical/Computer/Phone


experience and/or knowledge of art handling/installation. Experience in electrical repairs to
appliances, circuits and fixtures.
Basic plumbing and carpentry skills required.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage tight time deadlines.
Cooperative and willing to work with others.
Ability to work evenings/weekends on a rotating basis with other team members.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, under direct or indirect supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Bilingual Spanish-
English a plus
Valid CA drivers license and clean driving record required. Must have reliable transportation.
CPR/First Aid certification required within 60-days of hire.


Working Conditions & Physical Tasks:
Job functions performed indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to
finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit;
climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up
to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Some local travel
necessary; valid drivers license and access to own vehicle required. Employee will operate/drive a golf
cart on hilly terrain. Position requires regular evening/weekend availability. Background check required.

Salary: $14-15 per hour, non-exempt, DOE. This position is eligible for employee health benefits.
