The main aim of the World Trade Organisation is to encourage the expansion of
international free-trade. How have the activities of the WTO affected your chosen
organisation and/or of firms in your chosen industry sector?

Possible Answer Plan
1. Define Economic Integration
2. Identify the role of RTAs and WTO in Economic Integration
3. Brief history of WTO
4. State the fact that T&T is a member of the WTO. If you are not using T&T, but maybe your
companys operations in the USA, then identify whether that country is a member of the WTO.
Do remember the newest member-Russia (August 2012)
5. Describe briefly the nature of your companys trading activities.
Example, SMJ manufactures drinks in Tdad and sells them in T&T, Guyana, St. Lucia. (Expand as
necessary)
Example, Barada group purchases clothing from China and sells them in Tdad. (Expand as
necessary)

6. Benefits of membership with WTO

a) Access to foreign markets. Do elaborate especially where your company is trading in a
country where you have no RTAs. The role of the WTO is even more significant.
b) Access to Global trading partnerships
c) Dispute resolution
7. Problems of membership with WTO.
a) Legislation which may restrict the products sold in various countries
b) Equal playing field for your competitors
