@Dylan How did Al Capone get away with his illegitimate businesses for so long?
1:36pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@Micaela How about paying off the entire Chicago Police Department
1:37pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@dylan if Capone didn't have legitimate businesses, why would he still have to file a tax return?
1:37pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
@James he may have had legitimate businesses covering up his illegitimate businesses
1:38pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by ANTHONY MURPHY
How could this even be an established 'business' if the IRS & other agency's haven't given him the
'okay' to establish a business
With Money, Guns, People, the Police, and Local Businesses in his hand he can get away with
pretty much anything, except not paying taxes
1:39pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
Of all the things he did he got caught for not paying taxes???
1:40pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by ANTHONY MURPHY
But if you don't have a proper business you don't have to pay taxes. He may have been avoiding
taxation by never declaring businesses though
1:40pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
@Dylan Out of all the crimes he got convicted of not paying taxes...
1:40pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@Josh How would seperate facilities maintain equality. If they are seperate are they not already
segregating?
Test
@Josh Separate but equal facilities will never work because of the general bias that comes along
with such segregation
@Anna Was this lady making things up or did she have physical evidence?
1:43pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hailey
@Anna maybe the kids didn't day anything because nothing actually happened
1:43pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Micaela
@josh: separate but equal can't work because marginalizing people by definition is not treating
them equally
@Casey spectral?
@anna did this lady make her accusations without any physical evidence
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Ted
@Josh no matter what was considered equal something would be found to make the white schools
better and vice versa. Segregation was the....
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
@Marco.. Yes plessy vs ferguson said facilities could remain seperate as long as they were equal
to one another. The Brown ruling said
@Anna Was there any first-hand accounts of Ray Buckey's threatening behaviors by anyone other
than the children?
@anna Maybe constantly questioning the kids about it pressured them into saying they were raped
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by victoriahasnosecret
@Anna How do you know that the person convicted was the one who took the pictures. Where's
the evidence for that
Anna did people accuse him of more things before he was accused of molesting children or after?
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by ADAM
@anna because children are very easily impressionable, is it fair to rule based upon their claims
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Bria
@anna but if there was no actual proof linking to these alleged 'rapes' why was this ruled, law is
about what you can prove, not what may be
1:44pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Charleskenney
@anna wasn't this a mass hysteria? I didn't know they had much evidence
1:46pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by FaithS
@Gabrielle How much of an impression did the assassination of John Wilkes Booth contribute to
the outcome of the trial?
@Hannah there is actually new evidence that OJ's son was the killer. The found a bloody knife in
his storage unit
@marco: are you asking about JW Booth's assas. of Lincoln or of the shooting death of Booth?
1:47pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by mr walters
@hannah if they had all of this evidence of him being there why was he said to be innocent?
1:47pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Ted
@Hannah if there is this extreme evidence of this man being a murderer, then why did the jury
@Hannah why did the jury say he was innocent if there was scientific evidence that he was not?
1:47pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by victoriahasnosecret
@hannah so if there was sonics evidence against him how did he get out?
1:47pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Micaela
@hannah do you believe that the jury felt him to be innocent based upon OJ being a celebrity
1:47pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Bria
@Hannah I agree with everyone else, how did the jury let him go free just like that
1:48pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@hannah: did the prosecution PROVE its case beyond a reasonable doubt?
1:48pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by mr walters
@Sabrina what do you mean by he felt he was suspicious, more detail on this
1:48pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Casey
@hannah he was found innocent in the criminal trial but wasn't he found guilty in the civil case?
1:48pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Rachel
@Sabrina nobody truly knows the story after Zimmerman called the police. Nothing was really
proved.
@Sabrina How do you think Zimmerman will be able to live the rest of his life, being seen as a
menace to society after this trial.
1:49pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by @sneha What was the purpos of releasing this to the public, why was the president against it?
@Sabrina What if Martin did have some sort of weapon on him or tried to attack Zimmerman so
Zimmerman could have shot him in self defense
1:49pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@sabrina if he went against legal advice and continued in an altercation / shooting, how is he not
guilty. This is murder
@anna that fact that he was a celebrity and probably had a good lawyer may of had something to
do with it
@does anyone know what the FL law says about, "Stand your ground"?
1:49pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by mr walters
@hanna
@Natalie He will not be able to return to his normal life because so many people in the country
see him as "the racists killer who got off"
1:50pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
when you say "hit him in the face and everything" what specifically did he do to require using a
gun for protection
@walters yes
@sabrina do you believe that if the race of the jury should have been more diverse, the verdict
would have been different?
@natalie At the same time even if he was convicted for Manslaughter he would be murdered in
prison if put into the general Population. "If"
1:50pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
@walters do we know that though? His story could have been fabricated
@Dylan But again he did many crimes which could have been noticed and not paying taxes was
noticed? Is our
@dylan if they have all this other evidence of a fraud business, why not use this income fraud to
convict Capone even further
1:51pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Cole
@james: true, but the problem is that the prosecution didn't prove he was lying
1:51pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by mr walters
@Walters but did they prove he was telling the truth, or did they base their verdict on the trust of
the defense?
@Gabrielle What was the strong evidence that they had against him?
1:52pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@Sharon sometimes they dont charge murder if they know they cant get a guilty verdit
1:52pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Casey
@Dylan Out of all the crimes he was found guilty for not paying taxes. What were police officials
and others doing. (Not their job)
1:52pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@sneha should we be allowed to break the law because WE believe it actually benefits the greater
good
@hannah do you think the jury could have been bias since he was a famous football player?
1:52pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Ted
@hannah it is extremely hard to find a jury that does not already know about the case
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Rachel
@hamil: the prosecution couldn't prove that GZ wasn't acting in self-defense, the very definition
of "Stand Your Ground."
@Hannah why would the race of the jury influence the decision?
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Sydney
@Hannah What if the jury chose his side because they believed he has so much respect that he
couldn't do such a thing
@sydney race always has something to do with it whether people admit to it or not
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Micaela
@Hannah Didn't the fact that OJ Simpson was famous lean the trial for his behalf?
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@Everybody Should the motive be taken into account when prosecuting somebody? How heavily.
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
@Basit it isnt about what the jury thinks about the case its about what the evidence says
1:53pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by ANTHONY MURPHY
@Sabrina Why did they not bag it properly. They should be aware of correct procedures
1:54pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@brandon I think the motive should be taken into account very heavily because that could be the
sole reason for the events
@Sabrina the Zimmerman Martin case was unfair because the jury was not racially diverse
1:54pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@Dylan, isnt it human nature to keep their biases, its hard for us as people to just let them go
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Casey
@Anthony I understand that but they still have the ability to be biased even with the presented
evidence
@hannah I think the oj jury make up was not fair due to the fact that almost all of the jury make
up was non-white. I think that non-white
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Omadi
@Anthony Oh but it is.... The jury has the utmost control. Weather they think someone is innocent
or not their choice controls their fate.
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Brandon F
Any legal trial should represent the law of the land, and only interpret it based on the law
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Charleskenney
People (black people) bond together and try to come up with similar outlooks and perspectives
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Omadi
@Victoria rarely will there ever be a jury where all members have no biases
1:55pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Casey
@Victoria A completely unbiased jury is impossible, but in some of these trials, the jury was very
skewed
People shouldn't be determining someone's fate by the color of his skin but what the law states
1:56pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Sydney
@Mandi but the jury needs to look past race and religion to reach a verdict
1:57pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Sydney
@mandi And that one person can help sway the whole jury's opinion
1:57pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Rachel
@rachel I concur
@Mandi PREACH
Back to the Zimmerman trial, outside evidence was also brought in to let the jury know about
Martin's and Zimmerman's lives previously
1:58pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
@micaela explain...
@mandi its human nature to automatically put their beliefs into play when forming an opinion
1:58pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Micaela
@eveybody sounds like they need to pick the jury more carefully
1:58pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by FaithS
The entire purpose of the prosecutors and defenders is to persuade the jury to feel a certain way
and be biased.
@Basit it isnt possible, some probably would lie to get on the jury in order to convict someone
based off bais
@faith rt
They should take jurors from foreign countries that have no clue about the trial in play
1:59pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
@Victoria but what if they are biased into the wrong direction
1:59pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
When discussing a case, everyone will have a different viewpoint and a belief of what actually
happened
By taking jurors from foreign countries, the court will be diverse. Good idea? Yes. Practical? No.
@Everyone The jury selection process is already extremely selective. I doubt many people called to
jury duty would be happy if itwere longer
2:00pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Marco
@basit it is the courts responsibility to use facts in persuading the jury into the right decision
2:00pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by victoriahasnosecret
@everybody: the courts have a reasonable expectation of average people to consider the evidence
and make a decision that is BRD
@Hailey I completely agree but if we work to not allow them to know of the case and just base it
off evidence then it would be better
2:00pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@casey they would take people who know English or hire translators
2:00pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
Race will always play a large role in the convictions of interracial cases
2:00pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by ANTHONY MURPHY
@Basit but what if they are biased into the 'right' direction the facts should have a major part in
which way the are persuaded
@casey that's the issue. People have great ideas but they fail in practice
2:01pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Hamil
@Dylan what if a juror does know about law. You can't assume that
2:02pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Basit
@micaela you cannot select a jury based on race or religion. They don't have to share their
religious beliefs
@basit: concur
@Brandon but people always make their decisions based on what they are familiar with
2:02pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Sydney
@dylan what makes you think they are of average intelligence and what are you basing that
statement on?
@brandon I'm not saying select it by race im sayig have tht play a bigger role
2:03pm, Weds, Nov 12, 2014 by Micaela
