K nochen vom Da mhirsch (Da tlUl dama; Abb.I) .
Ephesus geprgt, unters treich t d iese H erkunft.
Lehm geborgen , wr e d ieses Ergebnis kaum gewonnen worden.
The iden tification of bones foun d during the excavations in 1964 at the ma nsie of Augusta R aur ica, has
given the remar kab le result that there was a larger
num ber of horse bones faund th ere than in other
quarters of the tOWD. T able III oompares ehe number of ox an d hone bones.
Many a beast of burden had been killed t the
periphery of the town. Among the d ealen and
merchants there were pecp le of different origin,
some of whom were more indined to eat hone flesh
than were the "civ ilized" inhabua nts of the town .
This idea is supporte d by th e vari ed bones of
gerne animals and not uncommon dog remnar rte
(SCHMID, 1968b).
