Chapter 9- The Statistics Test 1. What are the issues in this case? The issues in this case are Cassandras study habits. Although she was able to memorize the formula, she did not take the time to understand the meaning of the formula. As a result it causes her to get confused on the test when the time came to decipher the formula. 2. What went wrong for Cassandra? Cassandra didnt study the formulas properly. She was only able to memorize the order of the formulas. Unfortunately, she did not study the content and meaning of the formula. When the time came to apply the formulas in order to solve the problems, she was unable to identify the meaning of each part of the formula. 3. What should she do differently if she wants to do better on her next test? She should take the time to memorize the definition of each characteristic within the formula. For example, she would need to study each factor in Sx/n by understanding what each letter and symbol represents. 4. If you were the teacher of Cassandras class, how would you help your students to prepare for this type of test? I would break each formula down into sections. During each section, I would explain the meaning of the variables and symbols. Not only that, I would also go over different math problems and show how each symbol is represented within the problem. I wouldnt want my students to just memorize the formula because they wont understand the meaning of the key factors in the formula. 5. Which of the following strategies is most likely to help Cassandra on her next statistics test? C. 6. Which of the following teaching strategies would be most likely to help students to do well on this type of test? A.
