info, etc.

Comments:.The lesson was geared to building a foundation for the Fundamental

Theorem of Calculus. The previous class meetings focus was reviewed and
together with todays lesson students will be prepared for the next lesson using the
Fundamental Thm of Calc. The sequencing of the lesson followed a logical order.
Comments: Notes and reminders of due dates were written on the board at the
beginning of class. The lesson began with a review and questions. Relationships
were emphasized regarding area of a geometric figure and area under a curve.
Comments: Examples were given on how to convert the limit of a summation to the
definite integral. Theorem 1 was stated and a visual given with examples. Multiple
graphs were used to demonstrate finding area using calculus. Website was used as
explained below.

Comments: Notice was given about what MLP does regarding notation. Prepared
examples were worked with explanations. The properties were discovered by
investigating integrals using a website, WolframMathWorld.

Comments: Guided questioning was used to help students monitor their progress
and understanding of concepts.

Comments: Informal assessment through questioning.

Technology teaching
aids: film, TV,
overhead,
PowerPoint, slides,
video, computeraided instruction,
etc.
Other observations
with respect to
instructional
strategies delivery.

Comments: SmartPen, Overhead, website WolframMathWorld, handouts with

URLs. Students used computers as well.

Comments This is a difficult lesson to teach on properties of integration. Mallorys

use of the website applet gave students a visual representation of each property.
The notes were recorded using a SmartPen and uploaded into MyLabsPlus after
each class for students to review.

Classroom Environment
The instructor
encouraged student
participation,
questions, and

Other observations
with respect to
classroom
environment.

Comments: All students were encouraged to ask questions and participate.

Immediate feedback was provided and other examples were worked to clarify
concepts.
Comments: All questions were answered promptly and students were checked for
understanding.

Comments: N/A

Comments: Yes, as needed.

Comments: Many students had laptops and used the provided URLs to discover
relationships.

Comments: N/A

Comments: Students worked problems for practice. Students completed the

handout as the Properties and Rules of the Definite Integral were discovered.

Comments Early morning classes are often difficult for students, but the class as a
whole was attentive, took notes and answered questions. Mallory has a good
rapport with each student.

Discussion of strengths and suggestions for improvement:

Mallory is an admired, knowledgeable instructor at CAC and her classes always fill first and have
students on the waitlist. She is well organized and prepared for class. She uses technology to
enhance each lesson, create interest, and show relationships to guide student understanding.
Her lesson was well-prepared and delivered according to the length of the class meeting.
Her lecture was very engaging and I caught myself taking notes as if I were a student! Thank
you, Mallory, for your hard work and dedication to the students of CAC.
