Summary (No less than 10 sentences for full credit)
As the crisis continues in Ukraine many people in the nation have lost homes, family and
friends. The village of Stepanovka once a neat farming villages lays in ruins from the fray
of the conflict. In this village a civilian was shot by a sniper of the national forces think he
was a separatist. The father of that man shot along with his wife are the only family left
and have nowhere to go. They have little food, no electricity and no heat. The destruction
is not only in Stepanovka. The wreckage of warfare shows its presence in many villages in
Ukraine. The ceasefire agreed at the beginning of September slowed the fighting but it
still remains. Streams of laments cause by the clash are endless. Some no longer care
which side wins and only want peace. The rebels call the land they occupy the Donetsk
People's Republic. The president of Ukraine say he will not negotiate with the rebels and
has pulled all state services in the occupied area. Many are trying to register themselves in
government-held areas so they can get pension payments. The Donetsk People's Republic
promises its own system of payments to people however many do not have faith in it. It
lacks basic organization and its national guard is widely hated. The schism between Ukraine
has brought much violence and destruction that has no end in sight for the hardships
caused by it.

Reaction (Must include evidence of point of view and/or bias and/or understanding of
article; no less than 6 sentences for full credit)
I was surprised at how much the people were effected and how much violence was really
happening. I thought it was relatively nonviolent. I knew that soldiers were sent in and
there were some but I never knew that there were area that have been totally decimated.
I also did not know that there were people who actually wanted to be part of Russia I had
always been under the assumption that Putin had invade because he wanted a new Soviet
Union. I hope that the live of civilians will be able to be improved and that the conflict is
ended shortly to ensure no more destruction happens.
