Internationalmigrantshaveashareofabout5%ofallmigrationflows,buttheycontributemuchmoreto
developmentcountriesGDPthaninternationalaidagency.
AccordingtotheWorldBank(http://data.worldbank.org/datacatalog/migrationandremittances)there
areacoupleofcountrieswhichGDPisheavilyinfluencedbymigrantremittances.
Ithinkthenationalisticspatialperspectiveofmigrationiswrong,becausemigrationhappenwithin
distinctgeographicmicroregions,mesoregionsormacroregion.Theentirestatisticalagenciesshouldre
worktheirdatacollections.
Thecodevelopmentconceptwanttogainatriplewinfordestinationcountry(moregrowth),sending
country(remittance)andtheindividualmigrant(betterincome).Unfortunately,theinstitutionsfor
implementingthecodevelopmentisintheinfancy.FranceandSpainhavethefirstcodevelopment
programsandthedevelopmentagenciesareadoptingtheapproachrapidly.
Whatcanmigrantsdotoenhancetheleverageeffectofmigrationontrade,development,growthand
innovation?
Migrantsareinthemajoritylowwageearnerandtheirbigcontributiontotheeconomicgrowthinthe
residencecountryandtheirimportantrolefortheredistributionofworldincomeisnotproperly
recognized.
Theeconomicsituationofselfemployedethnicsmallbusinessownersisunfavorable.Theentire
situationshouldbechangebyadoptingthefinancialsystemofArgentiniaformigrants.
Firststep,weneedcommunitybanksmodelledafterthemodeloftheSouthShoreBank.TheSouth
ShoreBankfailsbecauseofitstinyness.
Secondstep,weshouldprotectthemigrantcommunitybankswiththehelpofmigrantonly,
multinationalpensionfunds.
Thirdstep,weusestructuredfinancetochannelpensionfundcapitalforSMEFinancing,housing
financeandrefinancingofventurecapitalplusspecializeddebtswapse.g.debtfordevelopmentswaps
orGDPlinkedbondstorestructuresovereigndebts
