World Without Nurse

When we are talking about the hospital, what is the first profession that occurs on
your mind? Most of us will say doctor and after that they will think about nurse. In fact,
until today nurse is still being underestimated even considered as servant by most of people
in Indonesia. In the other hand, most of them realize that nurse is the one who always
accompany them since the first time they are brought to the hospital until the day when they
are going home. They think nurse is the one who helps them to fulfill their natural needs. Do
you have the same way of thinking like them? If you do, for a moment, lets imagine how the
world would be if nurse doesnt exist.
If nurse doesnt exist in this world, hospital wont be a hygiene place even to help the
client to restore their health. The first notion about room care management was stated by
Florences Nightingale, the first world nursing figure, when the Crimea war took place in
Turkey a century ago. Nightingale, along with the other thirty women volunteers came to the
Scutari hospital, which was looked like hell, where the injured soldiers were crowding the
places inside and out. The residual part of body after amputation was offhandedly left behind
and the bandages of the soldiers have never been changed so it caused another infection.
Nightingale made a renewal, she changed the hospital management. First of all, she
buried the residual of amputation far from the hospital so the stench would disappear. Then,
she changed the room care to be the place where the soldiers who had a serious trauma put on
the parallel bed. The rest of them were placed in a save room, even only a tent, where they
got a roof to shelter them from rain and a bed to protect them from cold. Nightingale changed
the soldiers bandages periodically, made healthy foods for them and helped them to take their
medicine. She even asked the ministry of England to repair the sewer, so it wouldnt pollute
the water resources and the ventilation, so the soldiers require the adequate amount of
sunlight and fresh air. Until today, the things that were done by Nightingale in Scutari
hospital have been adopted to be the principal of hospital in everyplaces.
If nurse doesnt exist in this world, drugs therapy will be the only process to heal the
client. Nursing is part of the medical field which is focusing on the fulfillment of the natural
needs. Nurse dont think about the drugs will heal the patience but think about the things that
needed by patience so he/she will be healthy. Thats why nurse doesnt give the drugs but we
make sure out client take their medicine on proper way, we give another therapy to relieve
the symptom that caused by the disease and drugs, and make our client as comfortable as

possible when he/she is being treated. Even nurse treat the psychological and spiritual aspects
of their clients, so they will be healthy physically so does in mind.
Nurse take a vital part in medical field. They help us to develop the hospital since
Nigtingale made a renewal about hospital and room care management. Nurse also help the
development of healing process, they have a lot of teraphy to support the drug teraphy which
is given by doctor. If nurse doent exist, the world wont be the same like today.
