Procedure:
As students come in from recess they will be instructed to head to the front carpet
without anything. There we will talk about consonant digraphs /n/ kn, gn; /r/ wr;
and /f/ gh.
After discussing the consonant digraphs that are in the spelling words, the students
will be instructed to grab a spelling pre-test sheet and a divider, and head to their
spots. Once everyone is in the classroom at their spot, I will give the spelling pretest. Once completed, they will turn those in for me to correct.
Everyone will then come to the front carpet. I will preview the story for them and
discuss plot, before sending them back to their spots to read silently. Once everyone
has finished, we will come up to the carpet and discuss words that were difficult.
After that, we will discuss our vocabulary words for the week.

will go through all 20 of our spelling words (all words with kn, gn, wr, and gh).
After going through these, they will have 25-30 minutes of reading time to silently
read the little books that go along with our selection from the big book.
We will then work through our vocabulary words by me reading a section on T139.
They will then have a vocabulary worksheet to work on.
The spelling word practice and vocabulary worksheet will serve as my checks for
understanding in this lesson.

Then we will all sit on the carpet and read the story selection from the reading book
as a group.
Once the students and I have finished reading the story, they will have a
comprehension worksheet to complete and a story structure worksheet to finish.
Once everyone is finished, they will bring the story structure worksheet to the front
carpet and we will discuss together the correct answers for the story structure
sheet.
