Impact of the internet on thinking-CQ Researcher, 2013. Web by Alan Greenblatt
The article by Greenblatt addresses several ways the internet impacts our thinking. It
Talks about the background of technology and how it was used. He restated a dialogue
from Plato (Phaedrus) complained that the written word and books are hampering
memory. Instead of remembering things for themselves people had begun trusting written
characters. Technology has been making major changes in communication and thought in
ancient Greece. Even back then People worried about what the latest technology was
doing to their minds. He also used a lot of dialogue from book writer Nicholas Carr, he
restates from Carr, that the internet makes it harder to remember anything that the influx
of completing messages interferes with the physical mechanics of the brain that move
information into long term memory. Greenblatt also asserted 2008 Atlantic article- is
google making us stupid? Carr says the internet is an unmatched tool for communications
and information but argues that it can have bad effects on our brains.
This article went into depth of a lot of ways the internet changes the way we think and it
provides a lot of different people from different aspects in lifes thoughts and written
work on this subject. It was a very long article so I wasnt able to use a lot of information
from it ,but I took from it the best examples and data.

Mind Control: Is the internet changing the way we think by; Mattford for CNN Sept 17,
2010.Web
This article talks about how they interviewed Nicholas Carr and his aspects of how the
internet can change the way we think. He feels like the internet is an information
overload. He provided personal situations where he found his brain being only able to
depend on the internet to think. He states I was only able to sustain my concentration for
a page or two. My mind would begin to crave stimulation and distraction- it wanted to
click on links, jump from page to page, check emails and do some googling. Baroness
Greenfield, the oxford university researcher interviewed carr says the effect of too much
time in front of a computer as mind change. Carr goes into further detailing of his
analysis stating so as with earlier intellectual technologies the net strengthens certain
functions but weakens others. In the article carr was asked should we be worried. He
responded, it depends on what you value as a human mind.

This article gave me a lot of insight of how the internet effects our mind and information
for me to dwell upon from Nicholas Carr the author of Is the internet changing the way
we think.

The effects of the internet use intensity on quality of life, anxiety and depression scores in
pediatric migraine Ebsco host 2014.Web

This article is comparing the quality of life, anxiety and depression scores of school
children and adolescents with migraines with healthy subject according to their internet

use. The study was performed on 142 children and adolescents aged (9-17 years) who
had been in the pediatric neurology department with headache and migraine problems.
The subjects were divided into 3 groups of according to their internet use. Group2occasional internet users, group2 regular internet users and group 3 heavy internet users.
The statistical analysis was performed with PASW statistics v 13.0. The results were for
the children under 12 years old with migraines were little signs of the internet causing the
migraines but for the adolescent group the scores were much higher. In conclusion the
misuse of the internet in adolescents with migraine led to emotional and physical
impairment permanently.

This article was very informing and provided statistical analysis on this subject. It gave
clear information of the whole analysis and the effect it had on children and adolescents
already with mental issues and who use the internet a lot to see if internet use was
causing the problems. I was a very good article.

Fear of the internet to young brains unfounded- May 22 Ecsohost by Hannah Devin. Web

In this article it talks about how there is no evidence that moderate internet use has
negative effects on the teenage brain. The latest scientific review challenging arguments
made by prominent commenters that teenagers risk permanently damaging their brain by
being on the internet too much. Kathryn Mills a neuroscientist who led the research said
she found no evidence of the internet involving problem behavior. She states if we want
to know how this highly connected world is impacting our brains we will need to conduct

studies that investigate brain measures and their relationship to behavior, cognition and
wellbeing in a representative sample of the population. Some of the studies did show a
positive benefit of internet use if it was linked with educational research, sports club or
social networking. The studies also showed a google effect where students were less
likely to remember information that they could easily be found online.
This article gave a whole different aspect of whether the internet changing the way we
think and provided a different response from the other article conclusion s of this subject.
It did not provide a lot of information but just enough to give a clear understanding.
Overall it was a good article.
