Dear Hiring Committee,
I am excited to submit my application and resume for the _________________ teaching position within Washoe
County. I was born, raised, and attended schools in this school district through high school graduation. This
opportunity makes me feel like I am coming home. Because of my experiences in the Washoe County School
District, I subscribe to the ideals that the educational community must provide the best educational opportunities for
all students, that the outside participants such as family members and guardians be proactively included, a positive
school community, and appropriate levels of challenge and differentiation for all individual students. I
enthusiastically apply these principles to my everyday life and in my teaching practice.
My passion to become a professional educator was ignited while attending Galena High School when I became
involved in the Reading Buddies program at Hunsberger Elementary School. This experience was rewarding and
enlightening when I began to see the changes I could make in a young persons life through a positive educational
experience.
I am currently working towards completing my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as my Education
Specialist Teaching Credential and Master of Special Education at Dominican University of California in San
Rafael, CA. I completed my undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies and Teacher Education at Dominican
University in May 2014. I will have my formal education completed with my Masters Degree in May 2015. My
student teaching experience at Sun Valley Elementary School in San Rafael, CA provided me with an exceptional
learning experience. In my first placement, I am participating in a Resource Specialist Program. In this placement,
I fully engage students and meet their unique needs by utilizing on-going assessments, designing various creative
activities, as well as manipulating the curriculum to ensure its accessibility for each students skill level. I assume
full teaching responsibilities for several small groups of students, conduct and write Individualized Education
Programs, Assessment Reports, and Behavior Support Plans for individual students. In addition, I provide push-in
services to students and attend several Student Study Team meetings. In my kindergarten placement, I work more
collaboratively with the teacher to create units, lesson plans, and behavior management techniques to be carried out
over a six-week period of time. My formal education is supplemented by volunteering at several positions,
directing summer camp, nannying for several families in Marin County, and classroom observations prior to my
student teaching.
I am ecstatic to be a lifelong learner, and look forward to collaborating with other professional educators within the
Washoe County School District. My challenge is to ensure the bright future of our most valued national treasure by
becoming part of the Washoe County School District educational team. Thank you for your consideration. I look
