To familiarize students with Microsoft Publisher and creating
brochures.
To familiarize students with the Internet, specifically
www.wordle.net and www.quizlet.com
1. How did Mt. Vesuvius affect the community of
Pompeii around it?
2. How do the different heights of volcanoes in
Antarctica differ?
3. Can you define some key terms that would be helpful
in labeling the different parts of a volcano?

Unit Summary

This unit will cover Mathematics, History, and Language Arts with the overall topic of
volcanoes. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the functions of different technology
programs such as Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel, Quizlet, and Wordle. In History,
students will learn facts about Pompeii and the history of its eruptions and effect on the
environment around it. In Mathematics, students will interpret data to create a line graph as a
representation of the different heights of volcanoes in Antarctica. In Language Arts, students
will learn important vocabulary word related to volcanoes and earth processes that can aid a
student in labeling the parts and types of a volcano. With these terms, students will create a
visual representation of the words using Wordle and review the terms and their definitions
using Quizlet.
