The literacy of Business
Communication in the school of business is built on an occupation, profession
or trade, and often relies on the authority of relationships in an economic view. This
business department strives for quality in their applicants. The experiences you gain
while in your undergraduate years at the university are some of the most important.
In order to excel into the business school it is important to be involved with the
communities and social groups that are offered in this program. Knowing from the
beginning what Particular discourse you will be emphasizing in will help you to
proceed in a timely matter. The certain criteria needed to progress in this discourse
is held at a high standard. It is important to plan ahead and know what type of
requirement you will be held at. The practice of becoming accepted into the school
of business is one that is not taken lightly. There are various benefits of being
accepted into the business school. Most of which, helps you progress not just in the
business world but, in other fields as well.
In the business department, applicants are held at a high standard. This
standard is met in almost all applicants. Because the individual who applies know
the kind of quality that is expected of them, almost all applicants are qualified and
prepared for the business world. When a prospective business student finds that
they have not reached the level that is needed to excel in the business world, they

often dont even take the opportunity to apply because they know that there
previous performance is not enough to be accepted. Only quality applications are
reviewed in the business school for this reason. This field of study at the university
of Utah does not wish to excel with quantity but with quality. The business school
only wishes to expand with quality well-rounded competitors.
The experience and oppurtunities you can gain in the business school will
prepare you in the real world of business. Students in the business school have
access to a broad range of support and learning experiences. For those who find it
most beneficial to be active and involved have the opportunity to be apart of clubs
and social groups to gain more experience in the business field. Others might find it
more helpful for their application to take a break from their classes and do
internships or study abroad and learn hands on about the world of business. The
school of business gives you the opportunity to discover and find out what you want
to do with your degree. These oppurtunities are made possible because of the
resources the school of business has to offer.
One could find many diverse groups and communities in the school of
business. You notice a shift in sophistication between the upper and lower class
man. Upper classman have already attended a wide range of classes and experience
that has leaded them to a greater understanding of the business world. While the
lower class are still in the process of taking courses that will prepare them for what
the upper classmen already know. Another community in the business field is the
people that are involved in clubs and internships. These people are generally
looking for hands on education and want real life experience. While on the other

side there are people who would rather just attend the classes and get a grade.
These two different social groups identify the different communities within the
business field.
Once you have been accepted into the business school you enter into a new
community where you can begin your degree. There are eight different degrees in
the business field are, Accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, finance,
information systems (IS), management, marketing, and, operation management. Once
you are apart of the business program you are now able to begin your degree. While
speaking to an academic advisor I was given the advice that The sooner you know what
business degree you wish to specialize in the better off you will be.(Jessica Taverna)
This is because through out your time at the university you can join clubs, start
internships and become apart of different communities. Doing so will help you create
relationships with people in your particular degree. While in your pre- business years you
take classes that will introduce all eight of these degrees. This gives students the
opportunity to discover different fields in the business world.
In order to obtain a degree from the business school, you must first be accepted
into this discourse. To be accepted there are many things you must do in order to proceed
with your business degree. You need to maintain a 3.2 or higher GPA in your pre
requisite classes and an overall GPA of 2.5. One of the more important parts of your
application is how well you did in your pre-requisite courses. The classes that you need to
take to be accepted into the business school are, MATH 1090, IS 2010, ECON 2010,
BUS 1050, OIS 2340, and ACCTG 2600. Applicants who do not meet the requirements

for the business school should retake the courses they did poorly in or reconsider their
major.
Being in the business school at the University of Utah has numerous benefits. The
wide range of oppurtunities that the school of business offers will enhance your education
for the long run. This program has advisors and various sources to receive professional
help. The professors at the university are highly skilled and they will help you to succeed
in your major. The business school also offers peer advisors. Peer advisors are helpful
because they will assist students and are easy to relate to. The university also has another
source of assistance and thats the peer groups. They help you with homework and have
study sessions. Working with a group of people who are doing the same thing as you
helps students answer questions that they wouldnt have been able to find on their own.
There are also various amounts of internships that the Business school offers. Internships
help you network and create relationships with successful people who could possible help
you in your future. The school offers exchange programs that let you visit the business
world from a different state or country. The business school has many options for one to
become familiar with the business world before they have even graduated.
In todays society in order to be successful you need to go beyond the average
requirements. You must work hard and want the degree enough to give it your all.
Whether you are choosing a major or minor in business, the business school will widen
your knowledge and allow you to gain insight to the world of business. In order to get
into the school of business you must have a 3.2 GPA and some pre-business classes such
as Survey of Accounting I, Foundation of Business, Microeconomics, Computer
Essentials, College Algebra for Business & Social Science, and Business Statistics. You

need to pass each of these classes with a -C or better in order to be eligible for the
David Eccles School of Business.
When planning for your degree there are many things to consider. First is what it
is you want to do with your life, the job and career you see yourself in. Once you figure
that out you can choose exactly what area of business you want to study. Next you need
to plan on what kind of job you want after leaving college, the business school is a great
place to get a lot of amazing opportunities. You need to look at the courses required for
your major and what classes would help you build your degree stronger. Being able to
know what you need to succeed will allow you to plan better when getting your degree.

best way to progress in the business school is to become an active member through clubs,
internships and information sessions allowing students to grow socially and intellectually.
The sooner you know your degree in the business school, the more qualified you will be
to get through the graduate program. In order to excel in the business school, the students
are held at a high standard. Planning is an essential part of the business school, without
this practice it is difficult for one to succeed. The requirements are there to create an
outstanding and competitive field. The oppurtunities you receive in this program are what
makes this program so great, thus allowing you to succeed in more than just your field of
study.
