A. PSIII Internship Goals
Goal #1: To learn all of my students names and something about them by the end of
my second week of my internship.
Rationale: In order to start builidng a respectful and collaborative relationship
with my students, it is important that I know their names. Knowing someones name
shows you respect them and that you care about them, which is essential for a studentteacher relationship. Also knowing even just one detail about someones life also
confirms that you take interest in them. Along with that, knowing more information and
interests about my students will allow me to engage them more by incorporating their
interests in lessons and conversation. The overall evidence for this goal will be me being
able to call on each student by name and recall something about them.
Goal #2: To use at least three different forms of instructional strategy each week,
specifically in my Grade 5 Science classes.
Rationale: I chose this goal because at the end of PSII my teacher associate
encouraged me to continuing trying different instructional strategies in the classroom.
She thought I should challenge myself to take more risks in the classroom and try new
activities and strategies. I agree this is a good challenge for me to take. I notice that
sometimes when I find an instructional strategy that works for a class that I stick to it
very consistently. However, I think it is important to change things up both for my class
and myself to engage in the material better and in new ways.
Goal #3: To continue to have a healthy and active social life outside of the classroom
during PSIII.
Rationale: I have noticed during my past two practicums that my social life was
quite limited. Although this makes sense as a practicum is often more time and energy
consuming, I want to make sure that I still make time to see people I care about. Taking
time each week to see friends or family and catch up with them will rejuvenate me during
my internship, especially on days or weeks where I need more encouragement.

B. Strategies and Resources for Addressing Goals (How I will go about achieving my
goals?)
Strategies for addressing Goal #1:
I will start by introducing myself to each student in all of my classes.
I will review my class lists and become familiar with the names in each of my
classes.
When I start my internship, I will have them fill out a get to know you survey
so that I can match information about each student to their name, which will
hopefully help me remember them.
I will also not shy away from using their names so I get used to saying them often.
I will create a current seating plan for my students.
I will converse with students as much as possible before and after class as to
increase my knowledge about their interests. The get to know you survey will
also help enhance my learning of their interests.

Strategies for addressing Goal #2:

I will have my lessons planned well in advance (long range plans) and look at the
week planned, making sure I have a variety of instructional strategies.
I will interact with other teachers at my school and ask them what strategies they
find work best.
I will research and look into new strategies when I find I am repeating other
strategies often.
I will build trust and routine with my students to begin so that we are ready to try
new strategies together.

Strategies for addressing Goal #3:

I will get together with a friend at least once a week during my internship.
I will let my friends know how I am doing in my internship, but also allow myself
to talk about other things with them.
I will reach out for help and encouragment from friends and family when needed.

C. Indicators of Achievement of Goals (How I will know when and if I have achieved
my goals?)
Indicators of Progress for Goal #1:
I can comfortably call on any student in my class by name.
I will be able to engage each student in conversation based on an interest of theirs
or a piece of knowledge about them.
Indicators of Progress for Goal #2:
I can look at my long range plans and see at least three types of instuctional
strategy planned for each week.
I will have a better idea by the end of this internship of what strategies I know
work for me and which do not work as well.
I will have succeeded and failed trying new strategies and reflected on why that
was.
Indicators of Progress for Goal #3:
I will have spent time with a friend at least once a week during PSIII.
I will feel that my social life is fufilling and healthy outside of teaching.
I will feel that I am on my way to having a good work-life balance.
