To conduct the chat we used (give the name of the tool you used): Skype
Positives of this chat tool were: We were able to meet from our own home, at a time
convenient for everyone, even though we did not necessarily live close enough to
meet in person. It was easier to meet this way to accommodate everyones
schedule. It was nice to be able to connect with classmates face to face that I have
not had interaction with except through discussion forums online. We were able to
get to know each other a little better. Communication on this assignment was much
easier and effective when we could see each other and talk to each other in real
time instead of using email or discussion board posts.
Negatives of using this chat tool were: There were some technological difficulties.
My connection was dropped a few times and this held up our discussion because we
had to keep setting up a group chat each time this happened. There was also
difficulty with the video option in Skype. At first it worked fine, but after I lost my
connection, I was unable to get my video connection back. I could see and hear my
group members, but they could only hear me. I also think it could be considered a
negative trying to schedule around each other. We did not have a problem this time,
but because a computer and internet connection are necessary to use this tool, it
could potentially be a problem where meeting face to face in real life would not
require a computer and network connection.
