Essential Question: What crustal features are created by
the movement of Earths plates?

Plate tectonics
The lithosphere (crust) is divided into
tectonic plates
The movement of these plates is
what creates Earths crustal features

Essential Question: What crustal features are created by
the movement of Earths plates?
Types of boundaries
A boundary is where 2 tectonic plates
meet

understanding the solid lithosphere is divided into tectonic plates that move on top of the liquid athenosphere
creating different types of boundaries where they meet.
The type of movement of the lithosphere at these boundaries creates unique crustal features all around the world.

So What? (Whats important to understand about this?)

Earths Features are created at Tectonic Plate Boundaries, where two pieces of Earths lithosphere are moving on top of the anthenosphere.
At convergent boundaries plates move together and collide creating mountains, trenches, and volcanoes.
At divergent boundaries, plates move away from each other and new crust is formed, called a mid-ocean ridge or rift valley.
At transform boundaries, plates slide past each other and create faults.

Ready to move?
Lets Act It Out!!!
Students, create a Physical Response for each of
the 3 types of Plate Boundary Movements.
For example: Convergent
push hands together and create a mountain/volcano with
your arms, or
use two people to represent the boundaries.
