Merry Christmas from Dave & Deb Wilson - 2014

Jesus said in Luke 5:4, Launch out into the deep and let down
your nets for a catch. Indeed, we have let loose of the ropes that held us
to the shores of home. We left Indiana right after Christmas last year and
headed for Costa Rica for seven months of Spanish language school.
There arent words in either English or Spanish to describe how
challenging that was at 60+ years of age. And no, we still cant speak it
fluently. But God had many lessons to teach us in addition to learning
Spanish. We learned to adapt to a new living environment, eat different
new foods, spend lots of time together, travel around a foreign country on public transportation, spend lots of
time together, try to communicate in a Spanish speaking culture and did I mention, spend lots of time together-LOL. In August we returned back to Indiana for 8 weeks and enjoyed a beautiful summer.
Then we were off to Ecuador. We filed our paperwork for our resident Visas in Cuenca in October. We
had a little car trouble on the way back to Patate and so we turned it around and coasted 5 miles (without
stopping once) down the mountain to a small town where there was a mechanic5 miles!! After we returned to
Patate we lived in a small motel room for 5 weeks while we looked for a house and began to settle into our new
ministry routine in the community of Patate with our new church family. We also worked with mission teams
from Indiana and Kentucky. November 1st we moved into a small B&B up on the mountain above Patate and
have enjoyed a breathtaking view looking out at Volcanoes Tungurahua and Chimborazo. Until we find a house
(with a kitchen), this will work just fine.
But the best thing about this year is how God has allowed Dave and I to witness His majesty and be a
part of His work in the Andes Mountains. I want to share a short God story. After staying with the Proao
family one Friday night, we decided to accompany them to a village about 2-3 hours north of the capital city
where they had been invited to share a paint presentation of the gospel. We left their house early one Saturday
morning and as we traveled higher into the mountains, the van began to stall and we struggled to make it up the
steep mountain roads. Monica, Davids wife, suggested that we have her cousin, a mechanic, in the next town
look at the van where he quickly determined we could not continue to drive it without ruining the engine. After
explaining to him, that David had a speaking engagement, the cousin offered us his small club cab pickup. So
we left their three children with relatives and 5 adults piled into the pickup and took off. After 8 hours of
traveling, we finally arrived at the village only to be told by the pastor that the Catholic community had been
told we were coming and we were not welcome. But we broke up into three groups and walked around the
town inviting folks to come to the services. When it started, I was thinking Really God? After all we have
gone through to get here and only 5 children show up? Never to be deterred, David Proao began doing the
gospel presentation and thenthe lights in the whole town went out. Not to be defeated, we grabbed our
flashlights and held them on David as he continued his presentation. We could hear doors opening and closing
for the next half hour or so and about the time David finished, the lights came on. In the darkness, people had
been slipping secretly into the church and it was packed. When the invitation was given, three young adults
prayed to accept Christ. THATS HOW GOD WORKS . I was so humbled to be a part of that day that I wept tears
of gratitude to a Holy God that showed up and accomplished His will in spite of all the things the devil did that
day to stop His will from being done in the lives of those 3 young people.
We have seen many amazing things in Ecuador and watched God open doors in the Catholic schools
allowing us in to teach Bible stories to the children and share with the teachers as well. In the village of Sucre
alone we have worked with up to 100+ children on Wednesday evenings!! The fields are white unto harvest,
John 4:35.
We returned to Indiana just in time for the Thanksgiving holidays to enjoy precious time with family. As
soon as we receive a call from the Embassy of Ecuador that our visas have been approved, we will be heading
back to Ecuador to continue our work there. Until then, we are enjoying the holidays with friends and family
immensely. We thank God for each of your prayers, encouragement and support, as we journey together to the
work He has called us to do in Ecuador.
We Love You All and Pray a Blessing on Each of Your Lives,

Dave & Deb Wilson
