Phonics
Adding -ed and ing suffixes to the end of base words
The base words on the word list are words that follow the spelling
patterns that we have already learned. This week, we will be
working on adding the suffix ed and ing to the end of a base
word.

To mark a base word and suffix, underline the base word and circle
the suffix.

When reading a word with a suffix, it helps to tap/read the base

word first, and then to add the suffix. This also helps with
spelling words with suffixes.
Example:

wish (base word)

wished (base word + suffix ed)
wishing (base word + suffix ing)

getting colder, and the children still go outside during recess, so please have them dress accordingly.
Please make sure to sign all homework and initial the agenda.
***Although written homework may not be given on the weekends, please make sure that your child is continuing to
read daily.
In Reading and Writing, we are currently reading informational text (non-fiction). The following are suggested
activities that can be done using informational text on the weekends:
-Write the main idea of the book or section of the book and write details that tell more about the main idea.
-Take notes about the topic on a thinking map and then use the notes to write about the topic. The students must include a
topic sentence that tells the reader what they will be writing about and a closing sentence that sums up what they wrote.
-Answering who, what, when, where, and why questions about the topic of their text.
***If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at jpulido87@hotmail.com. I will try to get back to you within the next day or two
of receiving your email. If there is something that requires my immediate attention, please send in a written note
