Lesson Overview/Summary:
With cutting and gluing supplies, students will create a 3D sculpture. Creating different lengths will give multiple
perspectives in the sculptures.

Demonstrate safe procedures for using and cleaning art tools, equipment, and
studio spaces.
Appendix F: Modeling in K2 builds on prior experiences and progresses to include using and developing
models (i.e., diagram, drawing, physical replica, diorama, dramatization, or storyboard) that represent

concrete events or design solutions.
VA:Cr3.1.2
Discuss and reflect with peers about choices made in creating artwork.
Identify & define common vocabulary/concepts that connect the art form
with the other identified subject area(s):
1. Sculpture
2. 3D
Procedure
1. After discussing sculpture to the students, explain how they will be
making their own sculptures.
2. Provide students a paper bag, or piece of cardboard, that they will use
to glue construction paper on.
3. Allow students to choose color of paper they want to use on their
sculptures.
4. As students get their paper, instruct them the best way to get the
construction paper to stick. If you glue the end of the paper after
rolling it, the paper will stick a lot easier.
5. Tell students when gluing the paper to the background, sing the abcs
two times while holding the paper in place.
6. Allow students to make different shapes and different sizes of
construction paper to glue down.
7. Students will work.
8. Start clean up.
9. Recycle all usable construction paper.
10. Finish clean up.
What prior knowledge will this lesson require/draw upon?
1. Cutting
2. Gluing
3. Definition of sculptures and where they come from
Procedure Continued:
What activities will you use to engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson?
1. Students will have the choice to create their own, unique design
2. Students will explore and experiment the best way the sculpture will be put together
3. As students become comfortable with the making of the sculpture, they will be able to create different shapes and sizes of the construction paper
