Reading- The children are learning to expand their vocabulary


and tune into interesting words. They are using vocabulary
details from the text, pictures, and the glossary to help them
determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text. They
have learned how to use text features to help them
understand fiction and nonfiction texts.
Writing- The students are learning how to ask questions and
use their questions to drive their research. They are learning
how to organize their thoughts into main ideas and details.
There are also learning the framework upon which narrative
writing (stories) is built.

Math- The students are learning all of the various ways to


represent numbers to 1,000, such as expanded form, standard
form, base ten blocks and hundreds, tens, and ones. They are

Social Studies- We have begun our unit on history and culture.

Please have your child bring in a family treasure to help us


understand more about the past. They should be prepared to
answer questions such as, what was the object used for and what
clues help us tell the age of the object.
Please begin talking to your child about their culture and traditions
that you and your family share.

Please contact your childs teacher if you have not yet


scheduled a conference. We would love to have the
opportunity to update you on your childs progress. Phone
