Physical Education Instructional Lesson Plan

Instructional Objectives (Skill, Condition, Criteria): SWBAT
perform locomotor movements while dodging and fleeing other
students in an open space marked with white lines on the gym
floor as the perimeter of the playing field.
Cognitive (Know) SW know the names of the locomotor
movements, body part recognition and be able to identify them by
name.
Psychomotor (Does) (A) SWBAT perform walking, skipping,
hopping and running in an open space. (B) SWBAT throw and
catch a ball while dodging and fleeing the designated taggers. (C)
SWBAT recognize different body parts at the teachers command.
(D) SWBAT perform these actions while staying inside a
boundary.

Affective (Values) (A) SWBAT demonstrate what a safe tag is.


(B) SWBAT show you where the respectful places on the body to
tag are. (C) SWBAT show spatial awareness. (D) SWBAT show
teamwork.
Language Function Walk, run, skip, hop, elbow, back, knee,
spatial awareness, stop & go.

Academic language: When the students have lined up to leave the
gym, ask 5 students to perform either a locomotor movement or
name one of the body parts that are respectful to tag.

Equipment: Clear open playing space marked with a perimeter.


2 soft sticks for the taggers. 3-4 soft balls.

Teaching Approaches:

Safety Considerations: Clear the open playing space. Remind


students about spatial awareness. Place soft sticks on ground
when games not in session. Remind students of safe tag.

Learning Activity/Sample Task: Introduction/Set Induction:


SWBAT find an open space to begin the activity.

Modifications / Adaptations: During throw and catch tag you can


add more balls or taggers to the activity. Remind the students of
spatial awareness.

Lesson Focus: Perform locomotor movements of body part


identification.
Task 1 Teacher ask students to recognize a body part or perform
a locomotor movement.
Task Extension These movements are repeated until each
movement or body part used in the activity is recognized.
Culminating Activity Performing a locomotor movement while
identifying a body part in the upper body at the same time.

Additional Information: Choosing the students that are better


behaved to be the taggers as they will be using soft sticks.
Remind taggers not to swing these sticks at anyone with intent to
injure or harm.

Assessment Activity/Technique/Item: Observe what students can


follow directions and which cant so that for future lessons you
know which students to pick for demonstrations.

Teacher will demonstrate with a more coordinated student the


proper way to catch and throw.

Transition

Students stop on teachers command for further instruction on


the next activity body part tag or triangle tag.

Task #2
(Extension)

Teacher will name 2 taggers and name body parts okay to tag.

Transition

Triangle tag will be explained and executed.

Culminating Activity

Have students practice spatial awareness and throwing and


catching while performing locomotor movements. This can be
a fun way to end your activity.

Spread out in open space.

Ask students how they felt? Did they have fun? Commend
students on a job well done. Talk about teamwork.

Lesson plan ran smooth. I felt the students enjoyed the concept of my activity as well as the complexity. Some of the students were
misusing the equipment. Those students will be ask to leave the activity next time. I will remind them about the safety rules.
