Student Interview
Reason for Referral
SG was referred to fulfill requirements of a graduate course at Manhattan College.
Behavioral Observations
SG willingly participated in the testing process. SG and this evaluator met before the test
administration in a neighborly capacity. Although seemingly exhausted, SG was cooperative
and enthusiastic throughout the evaluation. As items became increasingly difficult, SG had
difficulty admitting he did not know the correct answer, or response; however, he showed
his confusion through facial expressions and sighs. However, SG would persist to formulate
a response in hopes he would be correct. SG was very happy throughout the testing process
and would often engage in conversation about the subtest and the materials being used. He
was also open to sharing information about what he has learned in school prior to the
evaluation. During these times, SG was redirected back to the task.

Interpretation of Wechsler Individual Achievement Test- 3rd Edition (WIAT-III)

The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test- 3rd Edition (WIAT-III) is an individually
administered clinical instrument designed to measure the achievement of students who are in
grade Prekindergarten (PK) through 12, or ages 4 years 0 months through 19 years 11
months.
Reading
According to the WIAT-III, SGs overall listening and oral expression skills are average
compared to that of other children his age. The Listening Comprehension subtest required
SG to listen to various passages, such as commercials and conversations, and answer a series
of concrete and inferential questions regarding what he had heard. His performance was
within the average range (standard score- 89). However, SG seemed to have greater success
answering the concrete questions as opposed to the inferential questions. The Expressive
Vocabulary subtest required SG to identify and verbally label various pictures of objects.
His performance was within the average range (standard score- 97). The Spelling subtest
required SG to spell words on and above his grade level. SG showed difficulty spelling
words consisting of silent sounds (standard score 93). The Reading Comprehension and
Word Reading subtests show SGs below average skills compared to students his age. The
Reading Comprehension subtest required SG to read and respond to comprehension
questions (standard score 80). SG showed great difficulty with questions of reasoning and
inference. The Word Reading subtest required SG to correctly read as many words as he
could from a list of words that increased in difficulty (standard score 83). SG also showed
a very low performance on the Psuedoword Decoding subtest, which required SG to read
pseudowords from an increasingly difficult word list (standard score 50).
Mathematics
According to the WIAT-III, SGs overall Mathematics skills are within the average range
compared to students his age. The Math Problem Solving subtest required SG to solve a
variety of problems. These problems were read aloud to SG and accompanied by a visual

prompt from the stimulus book. He was able to order fractions from smallest to largest,
interpret the calendar, and determine probability. However, he had difficulty solving
problems that involved measurements of lengths and angles (standard score- 83). The
Numerical Operations subtest required SG to solve basic math problems using pencil and
paper in the response booklet. He was able to quickly solve addition, subtraction, and
multiplication problems to the hundreds place. However, SG had difficulty when given
problems involving fractions, order of operations, and division. (standard score - 105). SG
also demonstrated his skills in computation during the Math Fluency - Addition, Math
Fluency - Subtraction, and Math Fluency - Multiplication subtests. SG showed above
average skills in multiplication (standard score 120). However, SG showed average skill in
addition (standard score 102). SG also showed average skill in subtraction compared to
students his age (standard score 91).
