Of course there are better ways to teach other than the passive teaching that has become so
prevalent in todays schools. We live in a digital age in which all knowledge is readily available with the
swipe of your finger. There are plenty of programs that can create an active and interesting learning
environment such as Word, Power Point, Adobe Premier and even social media websites like Facebook
and Twitter.
For a person to be able to use these programs that have to be able to do the basics of
computers, typing, key bored shortcuts and most importantly, how to search for things on the internet.
With knowledge on these subjects you can create an interesting way to give your students information
whether it be with easy to follow slide shows on power point, or some demonstration with a video
created on Adobe Premier. As well as creating your own media for students to ingest you can also obtain
knowledge on certain subjects. Being able to answer a childs question without any prior knowledge on
the subject is a beautiful thing. It allows you, the teacher to form a bond with the student as you both
learn together creating a more trusting and dynamic environment.

This short video is from the Australian education system that details the way our world is
evolving into a more technological based system. It explains the ways schools across the world are
incorporating technology into their learning environment and how students are able to connect to other
students and resources across the world. It explains how our world is becoming a hyper connected
world and that the skills learned in our schools will be needed for real life interactions and careers.

List of skills
1. The basics of searching the web
Many problems can be solved with a simple google search, you just have to know terminology
and what websites to go to.
2. How to incorporate powerpoints into lectures
Power points are not a way to sit back and let the computer tell your students what to do, but
they do help give students a visual representation on what you are saying
3. The resource giant that is Wikipedia
Wikipedia is an accurate source of information, long gone are the days where pages could be
edited by anyone and even longer gone are the days where false information stayed on.
Wikipedia also is a great place to find other sources as each item of information must be
sourced on the bottom of the page
4. How social media helps spread information
Social media is a great way to get opinions on topics and even to connect with teachers about
school work or other things to do with their class.

5. How to use computers in the classroom

This can be tricky, computers have many uses, research, note taking, and media sharing but its
also a place with silly videos and games. To use a computer in a classroom effectively you must
give your students programs to use and not force them to find the right program for the
assignment.
