Philosophy Statement

Philosophy is defined by a pursuit of wisdom; a search for a general understanding of

values and reality by chiefly speculative rather than observational means; an analysis of the
grounds of concepts expressing fundamental beliefs; the most general beliefs, concepts and
attitudes of an individual or group. The philosophy of education is expressed as an overall vision
or attitude towards education and the purpose of going to school. My philosophy on education
consists of my beliefs, and personal goals. Also, my philosophy includes the purpose of
education and the essentials for providing a good schooling experience. My philosophy is what I
will stand by as I pursue my career in teaching.
Education is extremely important in todays society. It not only teaches important content
but life lessons, social skills and knowledge we will never find anywhere else. Effective teachers
become an essential individual in their students lifes. The teacher needs to have respect running
throughout her classroom. Parents, teachers, the community and administration are responsible
for providing an effective schooling experience. I think the engagement between them will only
make learning and teaching more successful. The classroom has to be student-centered to allow
the students to have a voice. A great learning environment will support the following
characteristics; organized with some structure (not overwhelming), consistent, stable, fair, and
reasonable rules.
As I get closer to becoming a teacher, I believe it is important to understand the students
culture, background,who they are and how they learn best as an individual. There needs to be a

great deal of respect and discipline in the classroom. I think it is always very important to
understand the students first. I want to bring each lesson in my classroom to life to get every
student engaged. I will truly care about each student in my class because I have such a passion
about becoming a teacher and helping my students become the best they can. There needs to be
some discipline so the students know what is and isnt appropriate. I think an important piece of
teaching is having the ability to motivate the students to learn and reuse the material that was
taught in class. Lastly, it is vital each student needs to feel comfortable with taking risks without
getting judged.
My goals as a teacher are to motivate, engage and impact each individual student in my
class. I will center my class around multiple intelligences, multi-culturalism, a positive focus
each day, individual time, and enthusiasm. I not only want to teach my students new knowledge
but I want to impact their lifes in every way. I want them to know they have my support and I
will encourage them always. I love learning and one day my students will be saying the same
thing!
