Blame Game
For never was a story of more woe, than that of Juliet and her Romeo. In the story of Romeo
and Juliet, The Friar and Lord Capulet can be seen at fault for the two levers deaths, yet ultimately it is
Benvolios fault. Although Friar Laurence and Lord Capulet can be seen as responsible for the lovers
deaths due to the fact that both of them had been persuading and pressuring Romeo and Juliet into
things the two didnt fully understand, so ultimately it was Benvolios fault because he had been the one
who persuaded Romeo into going to the Capulet party.
(Lines 84-89 Act 1 scene 2) At this same ancient feast of Capulets sups that fair Rosaline
whom thou so loves with all admired beauties of Verona. Go hither, and with unattained eye compare
her face with some that I show. When Benvolio says this, he is showing how he is encouraging Romeo
to attend the Capulet party and find girls who surpass Rosalines beauty. (Lines 96-101 Act 1 Scene 2)
Your Ladys love against some other maid that I will show you shining at the feats, and she shall scant
show well that now shows best. In saying this, Benvolio is trying to convince Romeo that his mind is
making him think that Rosaline is more beautiful think she actually is. This shows that although Lord
Capulet and Friar Laurence can be blames, Benvolio is the true culprit.

Besides Benvolio, Lord Capulet and Friar Laurence can be blamed also due to the fact of how
they had been pressuring and persuading Romeo and Juliet into things they dont fully understand.
(Lines 20-21 Act 3 Scenes 4) Monday! Ha, ha. Well, Wednesday is too soon, O Thursday let it be. In
this text, Lord Capulet is already planning Juliets marriage to Paris without consulting Juliet herself.
(Lines 89-92 Act 2 Scenes 3) But come, young waverer, come, go with me, I one respect ill thy assistant
be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your housholds rancor to pure love. This shows Friar
Laurence Persuading Romeo to marry Juliet. Although this is evidence the blame of Both Lord Capulet
and Friar Laurence, Benvolio is still the responsible party. Thus proving once again that the blame for
the death of Romeo and Juliet can be blamed on many different characters.
Benvolio can be seen as the culprit behind the death of the two young lovers because he had
been the one to lead each other into meeting one another, therefore leading up to the events that
ended with their deaths. Benvolio is the character responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet
because even though he has been helping Romeo for the greater good, it was Benvolios fault that they
met in the first place. Although, there are many people to blame for their deaths, there may not even
be a person to blame due to the fact that mostly every character had a part to play in the events leading
up to the death of Romeo and Juliet.
