Hypercholesterolemia is a condition when blood cholesterol levels are above the normal
limit. Hiperkoesterolemia can evolve to kidney inflammation and endothelial damage which
causes albuminuria. Treatment of hypercholesterolemia can be done by consuming
antioxidants contained in the leaves of breadfruit. This research aims to determine that the
breadfruit leaf extract can increase blood albumin levels and improve renal histopathology
hypercholesterolemic mice. Experimental animals used were male rat (Rattus norvegicus)
which divided into 5 treatment groups. Negative control group A, positive control group B,
group C, D and E as treatment group at a dose of 500 mg / kg, 1000 mg / kg and 2000 mg /
kg. Diet hypercholesterolemia given for 14 days and the treatment given during the next 14
days. The variables measured were blood albumin levels and renal histopathology. Blood
albumin levels were qualitatively analyzed with ANOVA analysis of variance followed by
Tukey's test ( = 0.05). The results showed breadfruit leaf extract therapy significantly raises
blood albumin levels (p <0.05). Blood albumin levels of group A were 6.1564 0.097 g / dL,
group B 4.0972 0.075 g / dL, group C 4.7296 0.079 g / dL, group D 5.1380 0.051 g /
dL and group E 5.4064 0.083 g / dL. Group E showed near-normal levels of albumin. Renal
histopathology representation of Group A showed a normal representaion and were found
edema and inflammation in group B. There were inflammation drop and edema did not come
off in group C, D and E. Breadfruit leaf extract therapy increases blood albumin levels and
improve renal histopathology representation of hypercholesterolemic mice.
