The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing


that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and
across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas,
and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and
challenging learning experiences.

Brief Description:
My Virtual Child was an ongoing project in the spring of 2014 for my child
development course. The assignment was to raise a virtual child sections at a time
and the third section was six- to eleven-years-old. At the end of each section a
report was to be written that answered questions regarding the childs cognitive,
linguistic, social, emotional, and physical development.
Rationale:
To document my understanding of Learner Development, I have selected to
include my Third Virtual Child Report because this assignment enabled me to
further understand how development in one area affects performance in other
areas. In addition, I now better understand that each childs cognitive, linguistic,
social, emotional, and physical development influences his/her learning.
