Sense of identity

An individuals sense of identity is grounded in their cultural identity. I have come to the
conclusion that my identity does not have to be static. An identity defines an individual
and it is a self representation of your interests, relationships, social activities and so on.
An individual makes up its own identity however it gets influenced by the society. Our
sense of identity is impacted by various factors, including our experiences, relationship
and our environment, As stated before, an individual can have diverse of identities
depending on what you wish others to perceive and also how others wish to perceive
you. For example: family identity, social identity, cultural identity and so on. People do
not posses one concrete identity however they can alter their identity accordingly to the
environment and other individuals.
Everything and everyone can influence a persons sense of identity. For me my family
and my social groups are major influences on my sense of identity, and therefore also
play a big role in my life. Not only relationship between me and my family and social
groups influence my sense of identity but it also provides me with music, culture,
experience, religion and curricular activities, which all are elements forming my sense
of identity.
I struggled to find my identity in the beginning for Im an Australia born Korean going to
a German school. I had 3 cultures clashing together in my life and honestly found it hard
to settle on one culture. It was the time when my opinions and beliefs began to
differentiate from those around me. But as I got older I started to realise that I could
always alter my identity appropriately. I believe that finding our identity will always be
a continuous challenge throughout our lives as we encounter new experiences that will
modify our thoughts, emotions and perspective on ourselves.
