Problem Statement:Make a computer program to solve the CSTR model for the following reaction

Consider a reaction

Given Data:
Order of reaction =n=2

Reaction rate constant=k=0.4

Initial concentration in tank=

Volume=V=100 liter

Volumetric flow rate=q=15

Operating conditions:
1. We have

initially, and after a certain time, we have a step change in

it.
2. After that certain time, we also have a variation in volumetric flow rate by a straight
line.

Assumptions:
1. Fully mixed reactor (
2. Constant density

Note: Assuming from t=0 to t=4 sec, we have constant CA0

flow rate. After t>4, we have change in CA0

and constant volumetric

and volumetric flow rate.

Balance Equation for A (Reactant)

)=

From equation

Now we have to determine

as a function of time. We will do it numerically by using Forward

Numerical solution by Euler method:

Table of time and Concentration

Plot of Concentration vs time

Plot of volumetric flow rate vs time

Plot of volume vs time

Results and Discussions:

As the reaction starts at time zero the concentration of the reactant within the tank
decreases as plot shows. After few time we change the volumetric flow rate and
concentration of the reactant in the input stream. Due to this the concentration
increases within the tank because the rate of reaction is constant.
