(1) Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment. The student
is expected to:
(A) illustrate ideas for artworks from direct observation, experiences, and
imagination; and
(B) compare and contrast the use of art elements (color, texture, form, line, space,
value) and art principles (emphasis, pattern, rhythm, balance, proportion, unity) in
personal artworks and those of others, using vocabulary accurately.
(2) Creative expression/performance. The student expresses ideas through original artworks,
using a variety of media with appropriate skill. The student is expected to:
(A) create visual solutions by elaborating on direct observation, experiences, and
imagination;
(B) create designs for practical applications; and
(C) demonstrate effective use of art media and tools in design, drawing, painting,
printmaking, and sculpture.

Review

The educator will build on prior knowledge of drawing parts of the human anatomy. Students
previously practice drawing eyes as well as applying color and shading. The educator will encourage
students to utilize the same skills acquired in this project to effectively create a realistic rendering of
the human hand.
6.5 min Anticipatory Set
The educator will provide a PowerPoint example introducing students to artist MC Escher and how
to draw the human hand.

3.5 min Instructional Objectives


The student will be able to (A) suitably (D) create (B) a pencil drawing of a realistic representation
of a hand in the foreground with a landscape background C). Cognitive Creating

15 min Input and Modeling
Activity 1
The educator will teach the students how to draw hands by looking at the basic shapes of the hand
and fingers by providing a demo.
Activity 2
The educator will provide students with a teacher example of the finished drawing.
Checking Understanding
The educator will check for understanding as the students begin their initial sketches.
Guided Practice
15min The students will have the remaining class period to work on their individual project.
Independent Practice
The assignment will take place during the class period.
5 min Lesson Closure
The educator will discuss what steps will take place in Tuesdays class and how they should
incorporate an appropriate and creative background.
Materials: Computer , projector, handouts, pencils, paper

Accommodations
Students who require accommodations will be given more time to complete the project as well as
alternative assignments.
