Types of bearings.
There are many types of bearings, but generally we can classify
bearing into two main types, Friction bearings & Anti-Friction bearings.

4.1 Friction (plain) bearings

Friction bearings are also referred to as Plain bearings, sleeve

bearings, and journal bearings.

The journal is the part of a shaft that is in contact with bearing.
Friction bearings have a sliding friction between shaft and the
bearing.

Bearing bushes.
Plain bearings are made of materials that are softer than shaft material

to protect shaft from wear.

They are usually used for low speed and high load application.
The bearing bush fits tightly into the bearing block (housing).
Machined grooves are provided in bearing surface to allow lubrication.
