Assignment 1 (Due: September 19, 2014 at 4:00 pm)
Please, clearly write your name and student number on your solution sheet(s)
1. If the magnitude of the resultant force is to be 500 N, directed along the positive y axis
(Fig. 1), determine the magnitude of force F and its direction (2-3).
2. Force F acts on the frame such that its component acting along member AB is 650 lb,
directed from B towards A (Fig. 2). Determine the required angle (0 90) and the
component acting along member BC. Set F = 850 lb and = 30 (2-14).

3. Determine the magnitude and coordinate direction angles of the resultant force acting on
the hook (Fig. 3). (2-69)
4. The bracket is subjected to the two forces shown. Express each force in Cartesian vector
form and then determine the resultant force FR (Fig. 4). Find the magnitude and
coordinate direction angles of the resultant force. (2-83)

5. Each of the four forces acting at E has a magnitude of 28 kN (Fig. 5). Express each force
as a Cartesian vector and determine the resultant force. (102)
6. Determine the magnitudes of the projected components of the force F = 300 N acting
along the x and y axes (Fig. 6). (2-138).
