1. New Features
This is a maintenance release of WellFlo which contains some bug fixes and
enhancements required to enable WellFlo to work with the new version of ReO Forecast.
2. General Issues
User Preferences
In previous versions of FloSystem, user preferences have been stored in the FloSys3x.ini
file, located in the Windows directory. From version 3.6d onwards FloSystem uses the
registry to store this data, with each user having a registry key entry. This means that
users can now have customised FloSystem settings that do not interfere with the settings
selected by other users. In earlier versions of FloSystem, which used the FloSys.ini file to
store preferences, one set of preferences was applied to all users.
When FieldFlo and WellFlo are first run by a user who has an earlier version of FloSystem
installed the relevant user settings from the FloSys.ini file are copied into the current
users registry key.
These settings can then be modified by the user via the
Configure/Preferences or the Configure/Registry menu option within FieldFlo or WellFlo
(previously the user had to edit the FloSys.ini file directly). For further details please see
the FloSystem on-line help.
3. Installation
In order to install FloSystem on Windows NT/2000 or XP machines you must have
full Local Administrator privileges.
To install FloSystem insert the CD and the Software Product CD screen will appear. If the
screen does not appear automatically, you should go to the root directory of the CD using
Explorer or My Computer and double-click on the LAUNCH.EXE program.
Click on the Software Solutions button and in the Software Installation screen, select
FloSystem, and then Install FloSystem.
You will then be taken step-by-step through the installation procedure and you will be
offered the choice of a Standalone installation or a Network installation.
Standalone Installation
This installs FloSystem to your local hard drive; the executable files, units database,
example data files, etc. are installed, allowing full standalone operation. This is the
installation option suitable for most users. An appropriate security key must be licensed to
run FloSystem in standalone mode and for more information please refer to the Security
Options section of these notes.
EPS Support can be contacted by e-mail at support@e-petroleumservices.com

After selecting the Standalone option, just click the Next button and step through the
screens. You will not normally need to change any of the default settings.
Note: the default destination directory will depend on whether FloSystem has previously
been installed on your machine. If this is the case, then the default directory will be the
directory in which FloSystem was installed previously. Otherwise, the default directory will
be \Program Files\EPS\FloSystem.
Network Installation
The FloSystem network installation facility performs two functions:
1. Makes a complete installation (executable, units database, example data files, etc.) on
a selected network server drive;
2. Creates an extra folder called Workstation Install on the server drive. This contains
files that allow users to make local installations to their PCs from the network drive
folder (for Windows NT/2000/XP operating systems you will need Local Administrator
rights to do this). Only a few files are required for these local installations because the
main program executables have already been installed on the server drive.
An appropriate security key must be licensed for FloSystem to run in network mode.
Please refer to the Security Options section of these notes.
Network Installation: After selecting the Network Installation option, select Next and
continue through the screens. You will not normally need to change any of the default
settings, apart from specifying the server drive.
Note: the default destination directory will depend on whether FloSystem has previously
been installed on your machine. If this is the case, then the default directory will be the
server directory in which the network FloSystem was installed. Otherwise, the default
server directory will be \Program Files\EPS\FloSystem.
After installation you will find the FloSystem executables, the units and pump database
files, the help files and the example folder in the server directory specified during
installation. There should also be a Workstation install in this folder from which a
workstation installation can be made as follows:

Workstation Installation: Go to the Workstation install folder on the network, start

setup.exe, and follow the prompts. You will not normally need to change any of the
default settings.

Note: the default destination directory will depend on whether FloSystem has previously
been installed on your machine. If this is the case, then the default directory will be the
directory in which FloSystem was installed. Otherwise, the default directory will be \Data
Files\EPS\FloSystem.
After installation you will find the FloSystem units and pump database files, and the
example folder in the destination directory specified during installation. The program

executables, together with the help files that are used by the programs, remain on the
network drive and will be accessed when the programs are run.
4. Merging ESP data files
When running under Windows 2000/NT/XP, the ESP data files should be merged by an
administrator before the environment for a non-administrator user is set up (as specified in
section 5 below). To merge the ESP data files, the administrator should run WellFlo, and
answer Yes when prompted on whether to merge the ESP data files.
5. Non-administrator users on Windows 2000/NT/XP
Due to increased security features in Windows 2000/NT and XP, non-administrator users
have restricted access to the Program Files directory; they can read from this directory but
cannot write to it. This can cause problems when trying to run FloSystem, as by default,
any log files are written to the FloSystem directory, which is usually located within the
Program Files folder. These problems can be avoided as follows:
Create a folder to which you (the non-administrator user) have write access.
Run WellFlo and go to the Configure/Registry option. Within the Edit User Registry
dialog, scroll to the user value and use the Browse option to navigate to the writeable
folder and OK out of the dialog. You will need to restart WellFlo for the change to take
effect.
Run FieldFlo and go to the Configure/Preferences option. Within the Set Preferences
dialog, click on the Log Files text field and use the Browse option to navigate to the
writeable folder, then OK out of the dialog.
In order to have full access to the tutorial example, the example folder located in the
destination directory should also be copied to a writeable location.
In addition, if Program Files (or a sub folder of Program Files) was used as the destination
location during installation, then a non-administrator user would not be able to configure
the units system, or any of the ESP data. If user configuration is required, the units
database and ESP data files must be moved to a writeable directory. In WellFlo, this is
done via the Edit User Registry dialog, in which the units-dbase and esp-path values
should be set to a writeable directory and the units and ESP files copied by clicking on the
Update button. In FieldFlo, the location of the units database files is specified in the Set
Preferences dialog and these files are copied by clicking on the Update Units button. For
further information on these dialogs, please see the FloSystem manual.

6. User Guide
From version 3.6f the on-line help and manual have now been updated and merged into a
single HTML help system available from within WellFlo, FieldFlo, Well Data Manager and
the new PseudoPressure Generator application. This offers the advantage that all users
now have a copy of the manual installed with the software.

7. Security Options
With this release of FloSystem, a number of important changes have been made to the
way in which product licensing is implemented. There are 2 main changes:

Removal of support for Sentinel and C+ dongles. Clients with dongles should not
upgrade until they have been contacted by EPS Licensing Administration.

Users with FlexLM network or standalone licenses will need to obtain updated,
version-specific product keys. With this system a license for FloSystem v3.7 will
allow the user to run FloSystem v3.6 but not the other way round.

Clients with a maintenance contract in place will be notified directly regarding these
changes and the upgrade options available to them.
Other implementation details of FlexLM licensing are unchanged and are described in the
EPS Software Security document on the EPS Products CD. If you do not have access to
this document then please contact EPS Support.
