Current News Story

-

Many people these days have an addiction to keeping up with all of their social
medias and making sure that they never miss out on a status update or photo that
is posted.
Some people have a disorder where they constantly think that they have received
a message or someone has updated their status. This leads to them constantly
checking their phones to make sure.

Some examples of issues that have occurred from the issue:

A 34 year old woman was hospitalized after she spent excessive hours holding her phone
and sending out a mass amount of messages.
A 14 year old girl was killed when she went to collect her cell phone after dropping it
onto train tracks and got hit by the train.
A working man lost his job and his wife due to his twitter addiction and when he was
forced to chose between twitter and his job, he chose twitter.
There have been multiple cases of suicide due to people being unsatisfied with their
selfies.

Opinion on this issue

I think that this is a very serious issue because people have become addicted to being a
part of everyone elses life instead of focusing on their own.
People do not live for in the moment anymore, instead of just enjoying a moment they
are taking pictures so that they can post them on instagram, facebook and twitter.
INstead of thinking about how much fun the event that they are going to is going to be
they busy focusing on how to pose for their photos.
I think that we need to change the way that our generation works, obviously we arent
going to cut social media out of our lives but people need to learn when enough is
enough and when it could be harmful to themselves.

How to stop the addiction

In this day and age with our generation being so attached and active with
social media, the only way to stop the addictions and make sure that
they will not continue is if we make the choice to choose whats best for
us and learn our limits so that we can keep ourselves healthy, sane and
safe.
It is clear that we cant fully detach from our society and social media
but we do need to learn what is safe and what is putting your health and
life in danger. In order to do this we need to educated people on the
risks and how to stay safe.
