The Haitian Revolution

Spark:
Haitian revolution is one of the important slave rebellions in
the world. It was about the French people who own the Africa slaves
and brings those slaves to the island named St.Dominigue(Old
name of Haiti). St.Dominigue is the most important overseas colony
of French because it produces a huge amount of coffee, indigo,
sugar and cotton. French people own the African slaves. Those black
slaves were treated unfairly. Then the spark came, it happens
because of the French revolution. This revolution makes the slaves
want to gain their rights and equality back. The slaves were inspired
by the treaty named Declaration of the rights of man and citizen
which it believed that every one has an equal rights. The free people
and the slaves who has treated unequally start the revolt to get the
equal right. This made the free people and the slaves cooperate
together to fight against the French.

Crisis:
The leader of the slave and the free people revolt in that time
was Toussaint IOverture. He leads the slaves and free people to
fought against the French government. They controlled one third of
the island. Then, the fighting started, one fifth of the African slaves
and 24,000 of 40,000 white people were killed. Afterwards, he won
the fight and he ended slavery both in St.Dominigue and Santo
Domingo. But it wasnt that easy. When Napoleon Bonaparte who
was French leader at that time sent Charles Leclerc, his half brother
to resolve this problem because St.Dominigue gave French a lot of
profit. And this revolt made the Frenchs economic worse. So,
Charles Leclerc and the army of 40,000 French troops went to
St.Dominigue. Leclerc had a meeting with Toussaint to have an
argument but they didnt have an argument together. Leclerc
arrested Toussaint to French. Then, he died. Afterwards, JeanJacques Dessalines who was Toussaint right hand man became the
leader. He leaded the slave and free people to fight the Napoleons
French troops. Finally, free people and the slave won the fight.

Outcome:
After, they won the fight. On 1st January 1804. Dessalines
declared independence from France and called the changed the
name from St.Dominigue to Haiti but the French dont really
recognize Haiti as a country until 1985. Because of this rebellion, in
this day, we still heard the country named Haiti. But theres no
slaves like before.
