Live Sports Event - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ioS-kQIXxs

In this task we need to analyse two examples of a live event and studio
productions and how the multi camera techniques work in these industry, how
they connect to the audience and how they are set up.
My first live event will be coverage of Premier League Football, Tottenham v
Chelsea. In football you will experience many different camera angles to fill the
coverage such as from the
gantry which is your
stationary position where the
viewer gets to watch the
game from an angle and
camera which covers the
whole pitch, this is how
football is broadcasted from
this camera position. Football
needs to be like this because
there as so many different
aspects to the game to include such as the fans, the players reactions, the
touchline reaction, different camera angles of the game so we can see goals and
shots from different angles to gain more of a understanding and see it more,
football needs multiple amounts of cameras so cover as much coverage as
possible. As you can see in the photo above this is your normal gantry camera
position for any football match, this is the best position to watch football and
television as it covers the pitch and you cant miss what is happening. This
camera position pans from right to left depending on where the ball is on the
pitch so if it is towards the right hand side of the pitch of your screen then the
camera will pan towards that area and follow the ball and often what will happen
is when a goal the camera shot will change to the shot below. Youll find there
are two major Programmes who broadcast live Premier League games, who are
Sky Sports and BT Sports who both have a share of live Premiere League.

Another example of a different camera shot is the one to the left of the camera
zoomed up on the player after
scoring a goal to see his
celebration, this is so that the
audience feel closer to the
action and feel an actual part
of what is happening. From this
camera we get a closer insight
to how the team and player
feel about their goal and we
get to see clearly of how they
are feeling and what is
happening on the pitch, as we
can see the player is happy
with his goal and we can see
this by the body language and
expression of the player. We
can also see that another team
member is very happy with the
goal and is joining in with the
celebrations. This is a different
camera angle but with the
same purpose, to zoom in what is happening from the pitch and show us what is
happening, from this view we can see a face on view of both the players and as
the viewer we feel more involved with the game and we feel like we are actually
their as we can experience the same feelings as the players. This maintains our
interests because we want to see how the players are going to celebrate, and
especially if you are a fan of the team that has just scored you want to see your
team celebrate and see the best coverage of this possible and this is what these
two shots can offer you.

This is another important

camera angle where another
camera is positioned. This is
what you would call your
behind the goal shot, which
also looks like an end to end
shot. Often this shot is gone to
if a goal has been scored just
like the picture to the left, or if
to see the fans reaction to
when a goal is scored. In this example Harry Kane has just scored a goal and this
camera has offered us a very good view on where exactly the shot was taken,
the movement of the ball and also the movement of the players around him. As
this camera offers us a straight view of what is happening on the screen so we
can see in more detail of how the goal was scored, how the goal actually moved
and more clearly where the ball landed in the net.

This is also another really good

camera used at football
matches, this camera gives us
more of a natural view of what
is going on, as we can see to
the left there is a Tottenham
player with the fans in the
background seem to all be
applauding Danny Rose. This
camera is very good because
its on the by-line of the pitch,
and can look at players quickly so the audience can then see what is happening
on the by-line, how the player may be celebrating, and the fans reaction to what
has happened, so this can create more meaning to the viewer as us as an
audience feel more involved with the match, what is happening, and also feel
more of the atmosphere, as if we were there. This camera is often as well used
for if there is a throw in near the camera and then the camera can see how the
player plans to take the throw in and maybe see some communication between
the teammates to how they are going to approach the situation.
Constraints you could have with all of these camera positions are quite straight
forward, with the camera in the gantry, there could be poor infrastructure on the
gantry and in a worst case scenario something could happen where it loses
stability. Constraints of the camera on the touchline are that a player could easily
run into this my mistake or loose footing and fall into the camera and the camera
could get damaged and that would cost a lot of money to repair. Other
constraints are such as with the camera in the crowd look straight down the
pitch, sometimes viewing of the pitch could be blocked and you might not be
able to see this due to fans either standing or celebrating so you may have to go
to another camera position. There are going to be few constraints with every
camera position there is but many pros to it as well which shows us the best live
coverage. In a normal Premier League live football event there could be over 60
cameras at a match, this is to catch absolutely everything that happens in the
stadium and make sure that we dont miss a thing, and we can also view all the
important highlights in every view possible.
Concert at a concert we will see a variety of cameras at the event, the stage,
the crowd, a birds eye view, and many other different views maybe with around
20-30 cameras on the event. The first camera shot we would most likely see is a
establishing shot of the concert, mainly focusing on the stage and with the crowd
also on our screens, but how does this maintain our interests? With this camera
we can see what is happening at the concert, what is happening on stage, what
is happening with the fans and what they are doing, by seeing this we feel more
involved with what is happening and us as an audience we feel more involved as
we have a general idea of what events that are about to happen, and what is
generally happening in the area. It feels as if the concert is there happening in
front of us, as if we are there waiting for the music to start and we feel a part of
the crowd.

The next camera would

be the camera on stage,
this is the camera that

shows us live what is happening on the stage with the act that is currently
performing, we could be seeing them opening their set or in the middle of
performing a song, with the camera we will also see the rest of the band, if there
is any or others who will be helping a solo artist with their music. In terms of
maintaining our interests We get to see the artist up close so this gives us a
chance to find out what they are doing, how they are feeling, and a chance to
see them up close as if we feel we are right near them when they are on our
screens and see them sing up close which can offer us a personal experience and
a chance to see how they work up close.

Another camera you will see at

concerts is a camera on stage
which often looks over the artists
shoulder to the crowd. In this
camera position we can usually see
part of the artists back side and
mainly the crowd and some of the
stage, this is a good camera
position because the audience
watching at home can see how the
crowd is reacting, and they feel as
if they are there in the crowd, this
is also good because for people
who couldnt make it the atmosphere can then come into their house and feel
more involved in the concert, and also experience things that you would
experience as if you were actually there. From this camera position we can also
see how the crowd reacts to whatever the artist is doing, so for example if the
act plays a song which is a fan favourite then the crowd are likely to go wild,
from this we can take this experience and we can also experience this for
ourselves and feel more of a part of it. Also at the same time while feeling these
things you can also still slightly see the act performing up close and this is
another personal experience which maintains our interests as the viewer, this is
very important for a multi camera set up to capture all these specific parts to
make the coverage even better and more of an experience. From this camera
we can also see the language from the fans which is very ecstatic and excited
with the crowd waving flags around and jumping. From this we feel even more
involved with the concert and like we are actually there.

The camera which is one of the main cameras is the primary stage camera, this
camera is the main camera which will show the act performing and what camera
will most likely be used most
of the time to show the act
when being televised. This is
because we can see a clear
view of the act performing and
see every aspect of it, so what
they are doing, if their playing
an instrument we can see
clearly how it is being played
as seen to the right, singing
also to. This will maintain our
interests because its focused
primarily on the act, so
everything they are doing we
can see for ourselves in a very clear format. The act is always the main
attraction to a concert and this camera position allows this to happen.

There are constraints in a multi camera set up at a concerts there are so many
cameras, there could easily be technical faults with the cameras, with sometimes
cameras being on cranes, there would be a huge risk that one maybe could just
fall of and it could break which would mean thousands of pounds spent on
another camera and no footage from that position. Some other constraints could
be that with some cameras being on stage, this would the artist could become
easily distracted or maybe even bump into one of the cameras which would just
ruin the whole set, as there are so many cameras it would be important to
transition from camera to camera but also knowing what camera to do, as there
are so many at a concert and every moment is important, this is very important
to pick the right one wisely and there could be mistakes.
Weve looked at live events and how the multicamera system works, but now its
time to look at Stage Production and the first one I will be looking at is a game
show, Celebrity. A games show is usually set out with 4-20 cameras depending
on how big the programme, and size of the studio is. Usually there would be 2
cameras for each person, you would then have a camera which would be a group
shot, this would be one of the main shots as it has every one in all together in
one shot, this camera would be used a lot. A side camera which maybe capture
the group from a slightly sided view to the left or right. A camera that would
focus primarily on the host whereas the other cameras would focus on the
guests.
The first camera which is
used a lot in game shows is
the classic group shot at
the start, where you get to
see whos on the
programme, and all of the
cast together, in this
camera shot youll get to
see the whole set up, what
the game show looks like,
the guests on the
programme and get an
overall general feeling of
what it is about. From this camera we get to engage with the audience and all
the cast as we can see a clear view of everyone, what they are doing, how they
are all feeling and what they are preparing for next, this gives us a clear
understanding.

The second camera I have chosen to

do is the guest cameras, there could
be around 4-8 cameras for the
guests depending on how the big
the show is. In this camera you will
primarily see the guest, maybe a
part of the person next to them. You
will also see the stage in this camera
to. We have this camera because we
can engage with that person, see
what they are doing, and get a
closer up look of their expression and what they say. We also get to see more
clearly what they are wearing. We can also get a closer reaction to what is being
said and can relate much more to that person, as well we also see who is talking
much clearer with these camera views which makes it much easier for us to
understand as the audience and maintains our interests.

The third camera I have

chosen to do is the classic
camera posistion for just
the host of the game
show, in this shot we will
see the host which in this
instance is Keith Lemon,
looking directly at the
camera or at the other
guests. This camera is
used regulary a lot to
capture the host asking
the questions and asking
the questions. As the host we need to see what they are saying and asking to
understand the gameshow fully as the audiences point of view. With the camera
we get to engage a lot more in the actuall programme because we understand
much more what is going on. We can then participate ourselfes in the game and
play with the people around us as this camera gives us that oppruntunity. Also
with this camera there is good use of direct adress as we feel keith lemon is
talking directly to us, and this makes us feel more involved with the game show
and as if we are actually their.
My last and final camera I chosen to analyse is the team camera, this is the
camera which will show the team, one camera for each side. This is a very good
and important camera because clearly shows us who is on what team and what
kind of people are on the team, this gives us a clear undertstanding who is with
who and lets the audience know of the teams for that epsiode. As we can see in
this picture the team is laughing and grinning. This also gives us a insight to how
that team is going to be and what the show could be like for that episode. This
gives us a very clear view aswell of who is on the show, and what they are
wearing. featuring Kelly Brook as the team leader. This camera simply informs us

very straight forward of who

is on what team and how
they are feeling.
The constraints of this set
up at a game show is that
you will need to flick quickly
between each camera to get
best camera possible for the
best quality for the
audience, if this does not
happen then the audience
can be left to feel confused
due to not knowing what is happening. It is important that all cameras are set up
properly and that all cameras are in their correct posistions so the audience feel
more involved and incorporated into the game.
My next stuido based programme I will do is a Jonathan Ross chat show. Ina chat
show it is very much stuido based. With around 4-8 camers there could possible
be in this studio set up. With the jonathen ross show there would around 5-8
cameras to pick up on different angles such as Jonathen Ross himself as the hsot,
the guest, a long shot of all the guests and the music band that ususally play at
the end.

The first camera I will be

analyising is the most important
camera which is the one that
shows us the host. We have this
camera so we can directly at
home see what the host is saying
and the expression in which he is
saying things. This is also very
good because it is a use of direct
address which makes us feel
more involved as the audience,
we feel like they are directly
talking to us. This maintains our
interests as we feel more involved with the programme and can also play along
from home and really feel the chat show experience as if it was happening
infront of us. As you can see to your right Jonathen Ross is in his primary
posistion on the desk looking straight into which will be the main camera and
also where the autoscript will run down so he can then read it.
The second camera I have chosen to analyse is the camera which features the
guest and the host. In this camera you will see the desk of which the host is sat
at, and then the guest who is on the sofa. As you can see to the right Jonathen
Ross is sat with Sam Bailey with Jonathen being on the desk and Sam being on
the sofa. We can clearly see both people from the camera and see that the two
are engaging in a conversation. As the audience, this is maintaning our interests
because we can clearly see the host and the guess, we can see the surroundings

and we can gather a clear

understanding of the situation. From
this picture we can see that the both
are happy and smilling which
informs us more in detail with this
camera. Its good to see the
communication between the host
and guess together and not have to
see the camera flicking from one
person to another the whole time
and this is why I think this camera
posistion is very useful and uses
great direct address.

The thid camera I have

chosen to analyse is the
camera which primarily
focuses on the guest. In
this shot you will see
some form of furniture,
so a chair or a sofa
maybe. This shot shows
us the guest in detail and
gives us the oppurtunity
to analyse them to see
what they are wearing.
How they react to
questions. In which way they say things, and what they are doing. As you can
see to your right 3 members from One Direction are on the camera, this camere
view is preety clear and gives the viewers at home a clear understanding of what
is happening and this is what entertains us and maintains us, from the
conventions of a chat show, it is meant to be interesting and enjoyful, with us
seeing people chatting. This camera angle offers us that experience of engaging
with the guests and becoming more involved with whats happening and listen to
what they have to say. It is essential in a chat show that we can see clearly what
is being said.

The last and final camera I will

analyse is the camera which is
for the live music at the end of
the show. The camera will
provide us the coverage for the
live music and specifically a look
onto the main person. As we can
see to the right the camera
clearly shows us the lead singer
of the band singing directly
infront of the camera and this is
what this camera is for, to
capture that footage so the audience at home can see what is happening, his
expressions, body langauge, and focus more in detail on him. This maintains our
interests because we can directly see him and other aspects such as the drums
in the background. From this camera this makes the audience feel engaged with
what is happening on screen, as it so close up we feel like we are their and we
are experiencing this for ourselfes and can focus more on what is happening with
a clear understanding.
Constraints with a Multi-camera set up in a chat show are you will need a
diversity of shots, to cover all aspects, as a chat show it is vital we capture
everything is said as it is a chat show, people watching at home expect this to
happen and want to see to the best quality possible the conversation that is
going on but in a different aspect now and then, it is very demanding and the
right camera at the right time needs to be used. If this doesnt happen there
could be very unhappy viewers.
