The

North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation assesses students in a variety of ways, then uses
that data to guide instruction and determine needed differentiations. Following are descriptions of
the standardized tests used across the corporation.
Summative State-wide Tests
ISTEP+ (Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus) measures student achievement in the
subject areas of English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In particular, ISTEP+
reports student achievement levels according to the Indiana Academic Standards that were adopted by the
Indiana State Board of Education. The ISTEP+ assessment is criterion-referenced and is designed to
measure students mastery of the standards.
The ISTEP+ End of Course Assessments (ECAs) are criterion-referenced assessments developed specifically
for students completing their instruction in Algebra I, Biology I, or English 10.
The Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment measures foundational reading
standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative
assessment that was developed in accordance with HEA 1367 (also known as PL 109 from 2010) which
"requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of
2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four."
The National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC) Assessment, an alternate assessment, is aligned with
college- and career-ready standards. The NCSC Assessment is designed to replace ISTAR in the areas of
English/Language Arts and Mathematics beginning in 2014-15. Students will interact directly with the
items on the NCSC Assessment. More information about the Nation Center and State Collaborative can be
found at: http://www.ncscpartners.org. Indiana will continue to use ISTAR to assess Science and Social
Studies for non-diploma-track students.
WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessments) is used in Indiana to determine a student's level
of English proficiency. This is for students for whom English is not their primary language.

Formative Tests used at North Judson-San Pierre
mCLASS assessments provide diagnostic measures for K-2 students in literacy and numeracy, and improve
student achievement through formative tools that support growth and early intervention. mCLASS:Reading
3D and mCLASS:Math help identify students' foundational skills and provide teachers with instructional
guidance based on student performance on benchmark assessments and regular progress monitoring.
Acuity assessments provide diagnostic measures for grade 3-8 students in English/language arts,
mathematics, science, social studies, as well as for students enrolled in Algebra I and English 10.
Assessment reports provide standards-aligned performance data, which support an educator's ability to
inform instruction at the student-, class-, school-, and corporation-level.
Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) is a reading assessment program used in grades 1-10 which provides
immediate, actionable data on students' reading levels and tracks growth over time. SRI helps educators
differentiate instruction, make meaningful interventions, forecast growth toward grade-level state tests,
and demonstrate accountability.
