Thetitlemightsoundabitstrangeandperplexing,butthroughout

life.Theendresultoftheresearchwillrevealthatthewholesagaof
thePharaohsisperhapsoneofthebiggestdeceptionsinthehistory
ofmankind.Oncethedeceptionisrevealed,theIsraelite
connectionwilleventuallybeexposed.
Kingsorpharaohs,whatdifferencedoesitmake?somemight
argue.
Well,itwouldmakeaworldofdifferenceifwediscoveredthatforthousands
ofyearswevebeenlivingamyth,anothertwisted/misinterpretedJewishtale

Astronomicalassumptions
Anemergingpoolofscholars,representingdiversebackgrounds,hasbeenopenlycallingforadrastic
reductioninEgyptianchronology.
Supposedly,lunarandsolareclipseshavebeendiscoveredtoperfectlymatchtheestablisheddatesof
Egyptianchronology.Thisissimplyuntrue.Theconceptofastronomicalfixationisnotbasedon
celestialeclipsesbutontheSothicCycle.However,theSothicCycleismentionednowhereinEgyptian
texts.5TherearereferencestotherisingofSothiswhichhasbeenassumedtohavebeenthesightingof
thebrightstarSirius.TherealissueisthatmanymodernscholarstheorizethattheancientEgyptians
wereslightlyoffintheircalendarkeeping,andwhencorrectedinlightofmodernscience,thedatesline
upaccordingly.YettheEgyptianswereabletoorienttheirpyramidstowithinafractionofadegreeto
thenorth,south,east,andwest.ItismorelikelythattheEgyptiansweremeticuloustimekeepers.Thus,

Manethosmaze
AnotherreasonforquestioningthetraditionaltimelineisManetho,anEgyptianpriestwhowrotea
historyofEgyptinthethirdcenturyBC.ManyconsiderManethoswritingstobeindisputablefact.He
wasskilledatdecipheringthehieroglyphsandhadaccesstoinscriptions,documents,andothervaluable
artifacts.However,twoproblemsemerge.First,Manethowaswritinghundreds,eventhousandsofyears
aftermanyoftheactualevents.Second,noneofManethoswritingsexist.6Theonlysourcewehavefor
Manethoswritingsaresomeofhisstatementsthathavebeenquotedbymuchlaterhistorianssuchas

TheEgyptianevidenceconsistsofnumerousinscriptions,texts,papyrusdocuments,andartifacts.
Althoughitisveryhelpful,thisevidenceprovidesanincompletepictureofEgyptianhistory.
TheancientwritingsofHerodotus,Manetho,Josephus,AfricanusandEusebiusprovideadded
historicalinsight.Herodotus,thefamousGreekhistorian,traveledtoEgyptinthe5thcenturyBCand
interviewedpriestsandotherknowledgeableindividuals.Manetho,asstatedabove,composedahistory
ofEgyptforthelibraryatAlexandriainthe3rdcenturyBC.Josephus,thefamousJewishhistorian,
quotedfromManethowhenwritinghishistoricalanthologiesinthefirstcenturyAD.Africanusand
BishopEusebius,renownedhistorianswritinginthethirdandfourthcenturiesADrespectively,also
quotedManethoandwroteaboutEgyptianhistory.However,allofthesehighlyesteemedhistorians
oftendisagreewithoneanotherinthecalculationofEgyptianchronology.
BecauseofthediscordantnatureofEgyptianchronology,itisimpossibletopresentacomprehensivelist
ofdates,pharaohs,anddynasties.SirAlanGardinerwrote,Ourmaterialsforthereconstructionofa

Genesis,Noahsgrandson,Mizraim,7isthefatheroftheEgyptians.Inarevisedchronology,Egypt
comesintoexistencesoonafterthedispersionfromBabel,around2100BC.Eusebius,thefamous4th

AbrahamvisitsEgypt
ThebiblicaldatefortheExodusisapproximately1445BC.Exodus6:4andGalatians3:1617tellusthat
theLordmadeacovenantwithAbraham430yearsearlier,around1875BC.Notlongafterthisdate,
AbrahamtraveledtoEgypttoescapeaseverefamineinthelandofCanaan(Genesis12:10).Abrahams
visitdidnotgounnoticed,asPharaohsofficialsreportedtotheirkingthatAbrahamswife,Sarah,was

yearsofplentywouldbefollowedbysevenyearsofthemostseverefamine.ConvincedbyJosephs
interpretation,PharaohappointedJosephtosupervisethegatheringofgrainduringthesevenyearsof

TwocluesfromEgyptianinscriptionsappeartoconfirmtheGenesisaccount.First,alargereliefon
HungryRockstates,BecauseHapy[therivergod]hadfailedtocomeintimeinaperiodofseven

HebrewslavesinEgypt
Inthetraditionalchronology,theEgyptianoppressionofHebrewslaveswouldhaveoccurredinthe18th
dynasty.TheproblemisthereislittletonohistoricalevidenceofHebrewslavesinEgyptatthistime.
However,whenplacedinthe12thdynastyunderarevisedchronology,thereissubstantialevidencefor
IsraeliteslavelaborersinEgypt.
DrRosalieDavid,inchargeoftheEgyptiandepartmentoftheManchesterMuseum,writesabout
SemiticslaveryinKahunduringthesecondhalfofthe12thdynasty:
ItisapparentthattheAsiaticswerepresentinthetowninsomenumbers,andthismayhavereflected
thesituationelsewhereinEgypt.ItcanbestatedthatthesepeoplewerelooselyclassedbyEgyptiansas
Asiatics,althoughtheirexacthomelandinSyriaorPalestinecannotbedeterminedThereasonfor
theirpresenceinEgyptremainsunclear.15
TheBiblemakesitquiteclearwhytheIsraeliteslavesresidedinEgypt:

Anotherpieceofcircumstantialevidencethatsupportsthebiblicalaccountistheexistenceofpyramids
builtwithmudbricksandstrawduringthisdynasty.AmenemhetIII,apharaohwhosestatuesaresour
facedandcruellookinginappearance,waslikelythePharaohwhoansweredthecomplainingHebrew
supervisors,YoushallnolongergivethepeoplestrawtomakebrickasbeforeLetthemgoandgather
strawforthemselves(Exodus5:7).
Anothertantalizingpieceofcircumstantialevidencewasthediscoveryofboxesbeneaththefloorsof
housesexcavatedinKahun.SirFlindersPetrieexcavatedanumberoftheseboxeswhichcontainedthe
skeletonsofbabiesuptothreemonthsold,sometimesuptothreeinabox.17Itisplausiblethatthese
babyskeletonsarethebonesofHebrewbabieskilledbyPharaohsdirectordersinanattempttolimit
theirpopulation(Exodus1:16).However,oneparticularbabyboywouldescapePharaohsdeath
sentenceandchangethecourseofHebrewhistory.
Mosesisborn
AccordingtotheBookofExodus,thebabyMoseswasadoptedbyPharaohsdaughterwhileshewas
bathingattheriver.HisparentsdefiedPharaohsorderandlefthisdestinyintheLordshands,placing
himinabaskettobediscoveredbyPharaohsdaughter.Manyconsiderthistobeanicestory,but
completelyunrealistic.Afterall,whatEgyptianprincesswouldadoptaHebrewslavechildandofferto
makehimthenextPharaoh?
However,ifyouplaceMosesinthe12thdynasty,thefamilyhistoryofthePharaoniccourtappearsto
lineup.18AmenemhetIIIhadtwodaughters,butnosonshavebeenpositivelyidentified.Amenemhet
IVhasbeenproposedasthesonofAmenemhetIII,buthecouldjustaseasilyhavebeenthesonof
Sobekneferu,oneofthedaughtersofAmenemhetIII.AmenemhetIVisaverymysteriousfigurein
EgyptianhistoryandmayhavebeenacoregentofAmenemhetorSobekneferu.
JosephuswroteconcerningPharaohsdaughter,Havingnochildofherownshethoughttomakehim
herfatherssuccessor.Inaddition,DrDonovanCourvillehasproposedSobekneferuasthefoster
motherofMoses.ItisplausiblesincethereisnohistoricalrecordofSobekneferuhavingabiologicalson.
IfSobekneferuwasthefostermotherofMoses,thenthebiblicalaccountofherbathingbytheriverside
wouldmakesense.TherivergodHapywasthefertilitygodofEgypt,andSobekneferuwouldhavelikely
beenobservingareligiousritualintheriver.Perhapstheappearanceofababyfloatingintheriver
wouldhavebeeninterpretedasadirectanswertoherprayerforachild.
ExodusfromEgypt
Inarevisedchronology,NeferhotepIwaslikelythePharaohoftheExodusinthe13thdynasty.Exodus
7:10tellsusthatMosesandAaronconfrontedPharaohandAaroncastdownhisrodbeforePharaoh
andbeforehisservants,anditbecameaserpent.Pharaohwasnotimpressedsothemagiciansof
Egypt,theyalsodidinlikemannerwiththeirenchantments.Foreverymanthrewdownhisrod,and

lambandsplashitsbloodontheirdoorposts.TheDestroyerwouldpassovereveryhomewiththeblood
ofthelamb.ItisquitesignificantthatNeferhotepsson,Wahneferhotep,didnotsucceedhisfatheron
thethrone.Instead,NeferhotepIwassucceededbyhisbrotherSobkhotpeIVwhooccupiedthethrone
whichhisbrotherhadrecentlyvacated.21Tothisday,historiansareunabletopinpointthereasonwhy
thesonofNeferhotepIdidnotsucceedhim.Perhapsacloserlookatthebiblicalaccountisnecessary.
AnotherpieceofveryinterestingcircumstantialevidenceisthesuddendepartureofKahuns
inhabitants.DrRosalieDavidwrites:
ItisevidentthatthecompletionofthekingspyramidwasnotthereasonwhyKahunsinhabitants
eventuallydesertedthetown,abandoningtheirtoolsandotherpossessionsintheshopsandhouses
Thequantity,range,andtypeofarticlesofeverydayusewhichwereleftbehindinthehousesmay
suggestthatthedeparturewassuddenandunpremeditated.22
