ALEKS Assessment Information

2014-2015
Beginning fall semester of 2014, all students who wish to participate in a concurrent enrollment
(dual credit) mathematics class with DMACC will be required to take the ALEKS mathematics
placement assessment. For UHS that means students who want to take second semester
Precalculus for DMACC credit in the 2015-16 school year will need to take ALEKS and score at
least a 30% to qualify for DMACC credit. Students who do not meet the minimum placement
level can retake the test after reviewing the online ALEKS Modules.
The ALEKS is an electronic test that can be taken independently. However, a student needs
login information from DMACC to take the assessment. Students who are enrolled in Algebra II
at UHS during the spring semester of 2015 will be presented the opportunity to obtain a DMACC
ID/pin/password and take the ALEKS prior to the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
The ALEKS placement test is a new initiative. We at UHS are committed to making sure that
students who want to earn DMACC credit in mathematics understand three things:
a. You must take the ALEKS
b. You must score a minimum of 30% to be eligible for DMACC credit
c. There are remedial resources and additional opportunities to take the ALEKS for those who
score below 30%. These resources are online and are necessary to use in order to retake the
test.

UHS students are scheduled to take ALEKS on May 1, 2015, in the Media Center Computer
Lab. A couple weeks prior to the test date, students will create a DMACC login during their
Algebra II class. Login information takes at least a week to process, so if a student misses that
day, they need to talk to their Algebra II teacher right away. Students will be assigned a 90minute block to complete the exam online and will receive a score immediately upon completion
of the test. We will collect those score reports for our records but will not change student
schedules for the fall semester. Students who score below 30% will be able to retake the exam
but must do so before the start of 2nd semester of Precalculus.
